Republican Gubernatorial Wins: License to Redistrict?!?
I feel for my fellow Democrats smarting over the losses in the Kentucky and Mississippi gubernatorial races, but has anyone thought about what Republican governors might be doing shortly?

Are the Kentucky and Mississippi state legislatures Republican-controlled? If so, surviving Democratic congressional representatives had better watch out. The obstacles to Banana Republicanism--Southern Style have been removed. What happened in Texas and Colorado can happen to them, and they can have their districts jerrymandered out from under them.

This election, like the ones for the last ten years, again emphasize the importance of voting not just for picking the guys in the top slots, but the rest of the down-list races as well.

2. Redistricting can only happen after the census is taken
They have already been done in those two states.

In TX and Co, they had put it off.

3. Sorry, But Redistricting CAN Occur
Partisan redistricting CAN occur more frequently than the ten-year suggestion in the US Constitution. That's what happened in Texas.

4. No a court created the districts
after the legislature missed deadlines. The attempt to recreate them after amounts to reredistricting and should be ruled unconstitutional (if the cases can be heard in a fair court). Any news on those cases?

5. Where are you getting that?
There was redistrciting in Texas in 2001. The lines were drawn by a federal court because the republicans in the state senate killed the redistricting bill that had general agreement (Sen. Sibley, I'm talking about YOU!). Gov. Goodhair failed to call a special session to deal with it, and since we had to have reapportionment, the lines were drawn by the courts.

7. In KY, wouldn't matter.
All the Reps, save one, are Repubs. And the lone Dem might as well be a Repub. He's there only because the R's ran a complete lunatic 4 years ago.
