Why we lost KY and MS
Edited on Wed Nov-05-03 12:01 PM by jiacinto
KY--Patton screwed us there period. Had he not unzipped his pants and gotten into the scandals Chandler would have won.

MS--Barbour had the money and was running in what is now a heavily Republican state. Musgrove simply couldn't keep up.

Period. You can scream about BBV all you want and other tinfoil theories, but those states were tough races. And truly our candidates did the best we could.

3. YES!
Come to Kansas, we would love some progressive company. I still hold by my belief that the rural midwest is in play this year. Things are not going well here and Bush* is not nearly as popular as people think.

13. You sure you want people to know about Kansas?
Shhhh! Don't give it away.
I say this after having lived in Kansas for 25 years. (up until about 1994)
Despite the existence of Pat Roberts, I know there is an interesting progressive element there... Democrats get elected to be Governor after all.

8. Maybe a balanced look is needed
I looked at the Mississippi Legislature homepage this morning and in a quick glance at the front end of their house roster it looked like there were lots of Democrats.

Yes, I would like Dems to win more Governorships, actually, I would like more Dems to win elections at all levels, but I don't think we need to dispair, and, based on a look at who was holding office it isn't clear to me that democratic efforts in Miss deserve being abandoned.

Abandoning the deep south makes no more sense than advocating the northeast and great lakes states join Canada.

12. "You can scream about BBV all you want and other tinfoil theories"
that is a direct quote from the original post in this thread. And what exactly does the CA recall have to do with KY and MS? I would love to hear!

16. I wonder if tinfoil is the reason California took this action?
SACRAMENTO, California -- Uncertified software may have been installed on electronic voting machines used in one California county, according to the secretary of state's office.

Marc Carrel, assistant secretary of state for policy and planning, told attendees Thursday at a panel on voting systems that California was halting the certification process for new voting machines manufactured by Diebold Election Systems.

Or rather they see the problems...and are taking the appropriate action?

BTW carlos...Did you read the NY Times on Monday? There was a full on article about BBV...It aint just tinfoil anymore. Is that what pisses you off the most? That we were right all along? I think you protest a bit too much.

6. That was a factor, but...

Fletcher used every wedge issue he could and distorted the facts on every front- he also wooed the fanatical element that resides here in the Bible belt; but what did he REALLY gain?

Fletcher was beyond state Democrat's power while protected by McConnell in the Washington scene; Now he's stuck with a state bleeding red ink, with the two chief oversight officers (Atty General and Auditor) staunch Democrats and a pledge not to raise taxes. The next four years will not be pleasant for Fletcher; he has delivered himself to his enemies- His 'victory' will be truly pyhrric; he won the battle at the cost of the war.

9. I Agree
My fear is that the Republican takeover in the South is not yet complete. It seems that everyone in the South is both very conservative and politically active. I am amazed that we had democratic politicians in some of these states for as long as we have had them. Everytime I hear that elections will be close in LA, AR, TN, or GA, I am not optimistic about those races. Not only is the South very conservative, it seems that it is becoming more conservative every year.

15. Broken record...skip...broken record...skip...broken record
The reason we lost in KY is becasue nobody voted. That 39.8% turnout, of REGISTERED voters mind you, in and of itself, is reason enough to be skeptical. If the KY electorate are that complacent, then too bad for them. But to just write it off as tinfoil, as every right-winger seems wont to do, curiously, then we might as well just bend over.

I bet you'd like that wouldn't you, jackie?

I haven't seen the turnout in Miss yet, but I wonder about that too.

17. I'm locking this thread.
It is appropriate to discuss why we lost KY and MS. But your last sentence about tinfoil theories is not going to lead to quality discussion.
