We will find how big gun control is in the primary if.....
Gephardt or Kerry gets the nom then the Dem voters want more and greater gun controls.

If Dean or Clark gets the nom then Dem voters do not want more gun control and it will not be an issue.

If any of the other candidates get the nom I will eat my socks.

1. Say what?
Clark has been outspoken in FAVOR of gun control....and even Dean, for all his idiocy, is closer to Srah Brady than he is to Wayne LaPierre.

3. Quotes
"Hey, Howard: We don't need a pro-NRA president. We've already got one," said Mary Leigh Blek, President Emeritus of the Million Mom March. "Americans who care about getting guns off our streets need to know there is virtually no difference between Governor Dean and President Bush."

The Brady's don't seem to like Dean much.

15. The Brady's are genuinly anti-gun, and that dog just won't hunt
in almost the entire south and central part of this country.

You aren't going to ban handguns in this country, short of martial law.

4. I think gun control is a minor issue
I think people are far more concerned about the Iraq situation, national health care, the economy and jobs, etc.

I think democrats may be evenly split on the gun control issue, but it's pretty far down on most people's lists... even mine.

My first priority is getting my country back.

5. Yep and part of that is getting my gun rights back
The repukes have done nothing to get my gun rights back since they have taken power in 1994. They suck.

6. Does that make you a one-issue voter?
If Bush came out to restore your "gun rights", would you vote for him over the Dem?

7. Bush and Dean are not that different on gun rights
Only Bush supports lawsuit pre-emption but so do a lot of Dems and it will pass the Senate and so it will not be a campaign issue.

Both Dean and Bush support the current ban on assault weapons.

I'd take Dean any day.

10. You got that right
There is only one group of people for whom gun control is a deciding issue at the polls, and I'll give you a hint.... they aren't Democrats! Gore lost Tennessee because the GOP did an excellent job of convincing voters there that Al was coming to take their precious guns away. People who loved him there and voted for him as a senator couldn't pull the lever for him for president because of that one issue.

Dems will generally see a larger world view, the kind that leads to the ABB attitude (we may need to compromise on some issues to get a Democrat elected and the BFEE pirates OUT). The gun nuts will never see that broader view, and no matter how bad they think the chimp is fucking things up in general, they will never vote for a Dem who stands to take away their precious toys.

Dean's view is sensible on paper, but of course it would be up to the individual states to make good decisions about appropriate gun laws. Can we count on the states to do this? You got me. I don't know. But in the short term, handing the responsibility off to the states is a position which, while certainly not "pro-NRA" (the NRA's position is no gun laws of any kind anywhere at any level at any time, period), is not objectionable to the NRA, and thereby relieves Dean of the stigma of "gun taker."

I see it as another big plus for Dean.

11. Gun nuts?
Is that what you think we gunowners are? We love our guns more than our children?

Dude I love my freedom, that is why I own guns.

14. That's a bit prejudiced
I'm a "gun nut" in that I own several guns and support gun ownership, but hardly a single issue voter. I think the bill of rights is all important, but as I said, I have other priorities first.

If you make assumptions and insult people, you're not going to win their hearts.

I've been doing everything I can to turn conservative gun owners on to Dean. A lot of them now respect him.

8. Gun Control
Is a major loser for all Democrats, when will we ever learn?

Every single one of my friends, who are hunters and gun owners, are FORMER Democrats who now vote straight Republican. I am the only one who still realizes that no matter what the Democrats say, there will never be a reasonable gun control law passed in this country until the Republicans decide that they don't need to worry about gun owners anymore................then they'll take our guns!

As long as we push this agenda we will continue to lose the South, Midwest and the Far West. When will we ever learn?

If Sarah Brady really wanted to avenge the tragedy that occurred to her husband she would work to overthrow the real perps.....the BFEE, because that is who pulled the trigger on Raygun, not the legitimate gun owners.

She just loves it when Democrats peddle her gun banning agenda.

16. You are right on eddie, this issue is a no brainer!
This election is too important for this BS. My hunting buddies are mystyfied that I am not a member of the NRA, BUT they are also really PO'ed at asscroft big time. We could use every extra vote we can get and there are oportunities this election that have not been available in the recent past.
