How to turn myth making on its head
Ok lets turn the myth making on its head.

Annie Coulter is right, there are some that hate this country, but they are mostly located on the fringes OF BOTH PARTIES, but she just blames one side, US amd I paraphrase. (For the record with some of the posters here, she is correct)

"the Left hates the Military and the left is bad for national security."

Oh so far so good, we know she says this, but we need to reach joe six pack. So we start by telling joe how much we are disgusted at what the Right is doing to the military and emphasisze this with stories from the Army times, Navy Times, Stars and Stripes... don't use tbe New York times as they are part of that mythical Liberal Press... and the Navy Times et al have now so many stories it is not even funy.

Chances are Joe has a kid in the military or knows somebody who does, same background in many ways.

Once you break that first stereotype and you start talking about pay and bases and PX and all that happy horse manure, Joe will start thinking, maybe them libbies are not so bad and maybe Annie is not fully on the right.

When you can go to phase two will depend on each Joe but sooner or later yuo will be able to jump into the GOP is bad for National Security... Joe, if the polling data is correct, is starting to realize that Iraq is not making him safer (don't expect Joe to read the Washinton Post either, but he is having that nagging suspicion that this is becoming another Nam... bad analogy it is becoming another Afghanistan but the latter is not part of the tools that Joe has, so don't even go there, Nam works. Now you can start that by explaining to Joe that we now have an over extended military... now here is where it gets tricky as Joe may or may not realize that if and when the Draft comes, little suzzie will also be subject to it, so make sure yuo mention this in discusions with Joe, keep it to the people he knowns... his little suzzie may end up in Baghdad (For the record I have no problem with women serving, hell I have served myself... but Joe may have a problem) THe problem is that Joe's knee jerk reaction is draft is good... well draft has some possitives to it... and yes you will have to aknowledge them from his POV.. these are them spoiled brats from them cities will have to serve, and learn to love their country... true enough he has a point.

This is the military's POV and keep it simple... yep it will do that, but it will also ruin morale, pay and throw the drug testing out the window, as those who do not want to be there will just do some joints, and we both know that them liberals will do that to get out of serving... this he will tell you. It is part of the myth making, that liberals will do just about anything not to serve their country... remember what Joe hears, Libbies hate their country. Never mind I just listed the military's concerns, and they have nothing to do with liberals or conservatives, but remember what Joe hears. That particular one you can ask joe if Harry wants to be in the army, if he says no he does not, well point to Joe that Harry will do just about anything to stay out, including inhale. Oh and here you can also pull the patriotic buttons, well if people truly don't want to serve we cannot very well make them... plant the seed now as a draft is coming.

Now then start slowly to talk about things such as why we are in Iraq, such as rummy selling WMDs to Hussein, but that even though there is plenty of evidence to it, is still treated by the GOP as part of the myth making from the left... the list of the GOP indiscretions regarding National Security are in Joe Connason's Book, Big Lies so use that as resource.

Now once Joe realizes that little bobby is in this mess with his guard unit because of the GOP and that the GOP is making things worst, Joe may be ready to admit that the GOP has screwed things up... but by going out there and screaming damn troops, which is what some of these guys are doing... people are playing into little Annie's myth factory. Oh and at that point Joe maybe ready to vote democratic with the rest of us...the reason he has not done such yet is quite frankly we have not given him a good reason for it... and the message he hears on the radio and at times in the local teevee is that liberals hate the armed forces and their country. So we need to start turning the message on its head... and we cannot afford to speak to Joe about oh, them darn Iraqis either. This is a stereotype as some Joe Sixpacks have a far wider view of the world, but reality is that most Joe Six Packs barely care beyond their little town... don't expect them to care about them Iraqis.

Yes it sounds cruel that we have to leave them Iraqis out, but we must be strategic about it and we convince enough Joes that we do not hate the armed forces, in fact we are rooting for them with them, and wish those troops to come home... we may just turn this myth making from the right on its head.

We need to think strategically and blaming the troops, as most of you and I know, will not help... it will only play into Annie Coulter's expectations and I can hear Rushbo right now saying "it is that simple folks, liberals hate America, see how they spit on Veterans."
