Judge Says He May Block Abortion Ban
KEVIN O'HANLON
Associated Press

LINCOLN, Neb. - A federal judge said Wednesday he likely would issue an injunction blocking implementation of a federal ban on certain late-term abortions, which President Bush planned to sign into law later in the day.

U.S. District Judge Richard Kopf commented after a three-hour hearing on a lawsuit brought by abortion-rights supporters.

"It's probably likely I'm going to issue an injunction," Kopf said.

However, the judge indicated his ruling would likely would apply only to Dr. LeRoy Carhart of Bellevue and three other physicians who perform abortions and who filed the lawsuit.

1. It's a start, and a clear message.
It won't be easy to fit this thing. There is a lot of misinformation put out on it, and the GOP has gotten way to much power through fear. They can run the table on anything they want, as this is what they chose to pursue. We can only hope for the courts to do what is right.

worth politically, but it really is unfortunate that all of this energy and money has to be spent fighting this and fighting the religious right to life people who were so committed to seeing to it that an evil man like Bush got nto the White House just so the abortion issue would be brought up again--well, here it is brought up again only it is a house of cards with the lower cards already coming loose--people were not educated bout this--as usual, facts are obscured and religious advocates of ignore the mother and her health were shouting mythology and appealing to emotions rather than educating themself----

4. It is also cynical. Bush pleases his base with this while at the same time
making it clear yesterday in a press conference that the "culture" is not ready to ban Roe v. Wade. Political pandering at its most hypocritical; he knows that banning abortion will not fly politically in the upcoming election.

But, if he is elected, women's right to choose is in major peril!

5. Exactly- this is political campaigning, and a diversion from the
Iraq problem, nothing more.

6. It also could put the issue before the Supreme Court.
