ABC reporting
That Iraq sent an offer to disarm two months before the war and let in anyone they want in to inspect. This offer was sent to WOLFIE`S OFFICE. Rumsfeld said all efforts were exhausted in trying to solve this before we went to war. Rumsfeld is toast imop.

1. They can spin out of that
They will just say "You can't trust Saddam". I agree though, they never "exhausted" anything but their own patience in starting the war.

4. The Republicans would have investigated Clinton
long before this. The Democrats are too busy appeasing the Republicans to band together and investigate this president. Imagine the outcry if Clinton had done half of what shrub has done.

Bush will get out of it, just like his idol Ronald Wilson Reagan did.

12. Dems CAN'T investigate
they have no control in Congress, hence cannot launch a meangingful investigation. they can only call for them, which they have been doing.

6. Suspicious...
That's interesting news, and it certainly sounds believable. However, if it's true, wouldn't the Iraqis have made lots of noise about it during the invasion?

8. No
Offers like this are made through diplomatic channels, not publically.

7. I don't know why anybody would be shocked about this.
I knew about it back then, as I bet many other DUers did.

I vaguely remember the administration saying that "it was too late, they couldn't trust Hussein to be truthful," blah blah blah.

What's shocking about it that ABC is bringing it up now. Is this maybe another drip drip drip turning into a plop plop plop???

11. INDICT those warmongering jerks!
Nov. 5 — A possible negotiated peace deal was laid out in a heavily guarded compound in Baghdad in the days before the war, ABCNEWS has been told, but a top former Pentagon adviser says he was ordered not to pursue the deal, ABCNEWS has learned.

A prominent Lebanese-American businessman said he secretly met with Iraqi intelligence officials just days after Secretary of State Colin Powell laid out the U.S. case for war at the United Nations in February.

They will just say the Lenanese-American is lying.

They all should be indicted for this!

15. I'm not surprised. Wolfowitz is a main PNAC operative. PNAC's
goal, which was shared by Israel and Bush's oil buddies, was to invade, hell or high water. I think it became clear sometime ago, that no matter what Saddam may have done, there was no way BushCo was NOT going to invade. Israel was heavily pressuring Bush, as were the top PNAC operatives (Wolfie, Perle, Bolton, Feith, Abrams, et al) who are all ubber pro-Sharon/Likudniks, and no doubt Cheney was pushing for his greasy Texas friends.

I doubt anything will come of this, because it's already common knowledge that they didn't need to invade, that they used lies and phony evidence, and not shit is being done to bring any of them to justice. The media, which counts many of its owners and managers as "friends of Israel", isn't going to do shit with this either. They will protect their friends in PNAC, and the Pentagon, and in the White House.

17. note the CYA from Perle :

from the same report:

-----

But Richard Perle, the then chairman of the Defense Policy Advisory Board, said in the weeks leading up to war with Iraq, he told the CIA but they refused the plan to meet with Iraqi officials to discuss a possible peace deal along the lines of the plan outlined by Hage to ABCNEWS.

"Although I was not enthusiastic about the offer, I was willing to meet with the Iraqis," Perle told ABCNEWS. "The United States government told me not to." Perle would not disclose which official or arm of the government rejected the talks.
