THE EAGLES Rocking for Clark!
I've known about this for a while, but now that I've actually received the invitation in the mail, I figure it's at least semi-public information, and accordingly fair game for discussion.

I have in my hot little hands an invitation to attend a special fundraiser in Los Angeles on November 16. The event chairs are Shelli & Irving Azoff (one of the most powerful men in the music industry), Lyn & Norman Lear (famous TV producer), Peter Morton (famous hotelier and restauranteur) and Nicola and Jordan Kerner (noted Hollywood producer). The co-chairs are also extremely prominent, and include members of the band The Eagles, who are also PERFORMING at this special fundraiser. The venue is Morton's Steak House, and the tickets range from $2,000 (for dinner, cocktails and concert), to $1,000 (for cocktails and concert) to $500 (for the concert alone).

This is huge. People all over Hollywood will be attending this event. I am also confident that other events of this nature will follow.

For any of you who might be oh-so-concerned about Clark's fundraising prowess, I hope this lays any such concerns to rest.

1. Awesome!
Clark's going to do well this quarter, I think.

He's hitting the big donors with concerts, and hitting the small ones with the Zip Code Drive and personal appearance. Rewarding all his constituents at the same time.

5. Joe Walsh
Has been telling fans that he and the rest of the band have met with Clark and really like him because he's not a sneaky politican and seems real.

Any other details about this event would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

12. Comments
They just wrapped up their latest tour and have been pretty outspoken at shows. They've been dedicating "Hole in the World" to the families of soliders who aren't coming home. In Canada, they made some pretty strong anti-bush comments but then said they didn't want to be "Dixie-Chicked".

In 2001, they dedicated Already Gone to Bush.

Gotta love my boys :)

9. Dean Will Definitely Opt-Out
Edited on Wed Nov-05-03 09:38 PM by DoveTurnedHawk
It is obvious from the e-mail he sent out to his supporters.

I suspect the vote will be on the order of 80-90% in favor of opting-out. Dean will trumpet that as a mandate. I personally would have respected him much more* if he'd either: a) made the decision himself; or b) used neutral language, or put out both pro- and con- positions. As it is, it reminds me of elections held in banana republics.

Once Dean does it, I'm guessing Clark will follow suit.

DTH

* I'd have respected him the MOST if he'd actually stuck to his guns and kept his words.

14. I agree Dean will opt-out & Clark will too…
but I disagree about the way Dean has handled the siuation.

I attended the speech he gave this afternoon in NYC & he very articulately laid out both the pros & cons of opting out.

clearly he's in favor of opting out, but ultimately he's leaving it up to the supporters to decide. I think that's a good idea for many reasons, chief among them being that many people donated to the campaign under the impression that the first $250 they donated would be matched. as such I think it'd have been wrong for him to make a "unilateral" decision, not giving them a voice.

15. My Point Is That It's Not a True, Bona Fide Decision
Edited on Wed Nov-05-03 09:55 PM by DoveTurnedHawk
If Dean had really been interested in a true, democratic vote, he would have put out a neutral statement or published both pro- and con- positions. By putting out a blatantly pro-opt-out statement, he taints the vote.

DTH

On Edit: I don't dispute the practicality of the situation, by the way. It's really just a stylistic question.

11. Dean has already trumped Clark on this one.
Dean is starring in his own film, Master and Commander: The Far Side of New England, and he's taking the profits and plowing them into his campaign. He thinks the film will play particularly well in the South, because he hears Southerners are a sucker for a man in uniform, even an old, fake uniform. To double the potential appeal of the movie there, Dean has a special version of the film for release in the South only, where his ship flies the Confederate Battle Flag, not the Union Jack, and the movie has subtitles in Southern drawl. His cabin boy in the film is a blackface actor who goes by only one name, Buckwheat, for that special Southern touch.

28. The Eagles? Dang, and I was just getting warmed up to Clark.
LOL.

I do not like that band's music, but I suspect that they are pretty cool dudes. Well, maybe except for Joe Walsh. I can't forgive him for that "Life's Been Good"? song. Not only was it annoying musically, but it was insulting to music fans.

Anyway, sorry for the interruption. Now back to your regularly scheduled Clarkfest! Cheers! :toast:

29. "When Hell Freezes over"
Isn't that what the Eagles said about getting together again. Oh wait MONEY speaks louder than convictions. And Clark wants to be associated with people like this? Just some food for thought next time you are bashing Dean.

Anyhow, in response, this is good news for Clark and congratulations to him. I wonder if he'll pick an Eagles song for his campaign song.

Already Gone is a great jab at Bush* and cracks me up thinking about it...

That means I will have to be ready at ALL moments with my remote, to ZAP them!! That is the one band that I will not tolerate, if it means that I have to plug my ears and hum to myself, in public. And I have done it before.

Clark though needs to feel comfortable in his mission.

He needs to touch the people through their hearts and show
them that he cares for them.
And he needs to laugh and enjoy the challange before him.

If he relaxes.......all will feel comfortable around him.
