Why are they saying this now in campaign ads? I don't remember seeing this until I saw Dean do it. Now I've seen it a bunch of times.

...but you can bet that any ad that does NOT have that tag line is made and paid for by a special interest.

It helps to show that the candidates are in charge of what gets aired on their behalf.

In the new Feingold-McCain campaign finance reform bill, they have to say a statement of affirmation in their commericials and advertisements.

4. Good law
I think a creative candidate could do something with it in his ads.

Also, in time people will get used to it and they will be able to separate candidate ads vs. independent expenditure ads.

6. By including it in CFR laws
The hope was that it would cut down on the worst of the negative advertising and I think it has some legitimacy in that no candidate is going to put his/her seal of approval on something that is blatantly over the top. They can no longer distance themselves if the start slinging mud.
