Kerry's Wife Calls Debates 'Silly' (Wants Smaller Groups)
Kerry's Wife Calls Debates 'Silly'

"I don't think it really helps the American people, I don't think it helps the candidates," Heinz Kerry told the Boston Herald in an interview published Tuesday, the same day her husband was to face his rivals in a debate in his home town.

Heinz Kerry said debates have become about scoring a punch with quick soundbites.

"It's just silly," she said. "I think those debates are really unproductive and they made it hard for all of them to (get their message across)."

Heinz Kerry said she has suggested Democrats focus on smaller group debates that alternate among all candidates or pick three or four candidates leading in particular states — though she conceded the latter idea might not be fair to all candidates.

Heinz Kerry's comments are in line with frequent complaints from her husband, who has said the face-offs are not "real debates."

What do people think about breaking the debates into smaller groups?

2. Well, I guess she doesn't want to party with Rev. Al!
And thus the Reverend was insulted.

Later.

7. She Only Changed Party Affiliation Recently

I say, once a republican, always a republican.

4. these are all intelligent people
And they couldn't figure this out before now? I'm sure they could figure out, amongst themselves, how to restructure. That is, if they would be willing to work together to do it.

6. We need smaller debates
It's too chaotic with all 9 of the canidates, and their answers are all so short because of time restraints.

13. I actually agree with Kerry on this
I say, hold these types of forums monthly. Ones where everyone is included. Then have seperate debates in NH, SC, and Iowa. Among those in the top four spots in the polls.

i.e.

Iowa:
Gepthardt
Dean
Kerry
Lieberman

New Hampshire:
Dean
Kerry
Leiberman
Clark

South Carolina:
Dean
Edwards
Lieberman
Clark

8. She'll get her wish soon enough
I doubt very seriously we will see 9 Democrats running after Iowa and New Hampshire. We may even see less before Iowa and New Hampshire.

Some of these people just don't have the cash to make it for the next four months.

10. Dean pussied out from Kerry's challange
Kerry already offered him a one on one debate in New Hampshire, and Dean whimped out.

12. What we need are debate-offs
Candidates go head to head based on a draw. Winner proceded to the next round.
The two finalists will get a full hour against each other.

Either that, or gladiator fights.

14. Then by all means, Mrs. Kerry, ask Mr. Kerry to drop out.
Honestly- the election is a year away. This is the time to support the candidate you AGREE with, not the candidate that the talking heads approve of.

If Kerry can't attract supporters from other candidates, perhaps the problem is Kerry.
