I've got an ongoing LTTE battle going on with a certain Mr. Daniel John Sobieski who frequently contributes to the LTTE column in the local paper. Here's what he has to say about me.....
"The former Iraqi Minister of Information has a worthy successor in letter-writer Rob Roberts, who believes that if we only heeded the "numerous warnings that were received by the Bush administration before the fateful day" 9/11 could have been prevented."
http://www.starnewspapers.com/star/spedit/let/061-ltr6.htmSo, he thinks I'm a worthy successor to Baghdad Bob. LOL!!!! These guys crack me up. It's all hyperbole, with nothing to back it up. Now he's calling me names. Jeesh.
Here's my original letter:
"In his letter to the Star (Fight now, not later), Daniel John Sobieski references Bush’s September 7th speech as follows:
…(Bush notes that) it was our weak responses to prior attacks on America and Americans that emboldened al Qaeda and others into thinking America was weak and spineless and to plan the 9-11 attacks that led to 3,000 deaths in a single day……
I agree with Mr. Sobieski 100%. However the weak responses were the fault of the actions of the Bush Administration, not the previous Administration as Mr. Sobieski implies. Since 911, Americans have learned about numerous warnings that were received by the Bush Administration before 911.These numerous warnings were ignored, with fatal consequences for nearly 3,000 people. If these warnings had not been ignored, the Bush Administration could have protected America by taking decisive action in the days leading up to 911, and on 911 itself.
Moreover, the Bush Administration concealed these crucial facts from Congress and the American people, and then lied about them when they were revealed, in a deliberate effort to cover up its failure to protect America.
They ignored the final report of the Hart-Rudman Commission which concluded "States, terrorists, and other disaffected groups will acquire weapons of mass destruction, and some will use them. Americans will likely die on American soil, possibly in large numbers." They then blocked Senate hearings on the Hart-Rudman Commission’s Report. They repeatedly ignored requests from the Hart-Rudman Commission (National Security Advisor Condi Rice said she would “pass-on” their concerns).
The Bush Administration changed President Clinton's policy towards Afghanistan to appease Al Qaeda, the Taliban, and their Saudi backers to promote the interests of oil companies, putting profits for campaign contributors ahead of fighting terrorism. They also ordered the Naval Strike Force - which President Clinton deployed near Afghanistan on 24-hour alert in order to strike Osama Bin Laden, to stand down.
The Bush administration also failed to take meaningful precautions against a terrorist attack when many warnings were being issued, for example, Bush went on vacation for the month of August, after only six months on the job. They also allowed counter-terrorism agencies to stand down from the highest level of alert before August 6, 2001, despite repeated warning from CIA director George Tenet."
So whaddya think? C'mon, give me some more ammo to work with.....
