Pondering Jeb and Terri Schiavo

http://www.onlinejournal.com/Commentary/110303Simon-Noble/110303simon-noble.html

Death, dying and John Ellis Bush

-snip-

What is the point of keeping Terri Schiavo alive in a vegetative state? What is the gain for the parents? What is the gain for John Ellis Bush in joining with her parents' wish to keep her alive? Does he gain stature as a compassionate man in the eyes of his constituents? Contrarily, does he become an oversized governor playing God in the eyes of many? Bush says he hasn't played God—but he has!

-snip-

What about Jeb Bush's own ability to truly grieve or to deal with loss?

Loss—it is such a powerful word in the Bush lexicon. One that they, too, would prefer not to have to deal with as witnessed by Poppy Bush's inability to accept his loss to Bill Clinton in 1992; W's inability to accept that Iraq is in a quagmire, that our troops are not seen as liberators, that they are seen as occupiers, that Al Gore won the presidency in the 2000 election and Jeb's own refusal to admit that he played a part in his brother's stealing of the 2000 election.

-snip-

I know based on public Bush history how much the Bushes themselves don't want to be told what to do under any circumstances.

I know that triangles are a way for people to ally their fears and anxieties. What fears are then being calmed for Terri Schiavo's parents and for Jeb Bush by this triangling of her dying process?
