Zogby Poll: Shapton and Dean statistically tied with African-Americans
The demographics of the new Zogby Poll really shoot some of the myths about Dean that we hear about. Chiefly that he only appeals to the young. Another myth is that he doesn't do well with minority voters and his only base is among upper middle class white yuppies.

According to Zogby among African-American Sharpton leads Dean 14-11 percent. Among Latinos Clark and Dean are statistically in a deadheat, 19-18 percent. Among whites Dean leads with 17% followed by Gep with 11% and Lieberman at 9%.

Among voters under 30 Dean only polls 4% (tied with Edwards) and Sharpton and Clark lead 16-16.

Among those aged 30-49 Dean leads 16% to 11% for Clark and Lieberman.
Ages 50-64 favor Dean with 18% to 12% for Gep and 11% for Clark.
65 and over give Dean and Clark 14% apiece while Gep and Lieberman are tied with 12%

Regionally Dean leads in the East with 18-15 percent for Lieberman.
In teh South Dean leads with 13% compared to 8% for Edwards, Lieberman, and Sharpton. In Central-Great Lakes Gep and Dean are statistically tied 16-15 for Gep, and in the West Clark leads 22-17 over Dean.

1. None of these polls mean anything now
I think there is more of a -/+10 MoE because polls most likely aren't accurate as to who people are really going to vote for. It looks like good news for Dean now but not a single vote has been cast in the primaries yet.

3. I know
but the common myth is that Dean has no appeal to minorities and is supported only by the young "who don't vote anyway."

5. Ten candidates, and 11 out of 100 black voters prefer Dean.
I'm not sure if there's enough information to conclude that he's got that base covered.

10. Dean is in 2nd and Sharpton is in 1st with 14% out of 100%
I guess you can say Sharpton doesn't got his base covered. But according to this poll Dean is doing better with the african american base then Kerry, Edwards, Clark, Braun, Kucinich, and Gephardt.

14. He better be doing well. He gets all the press attention.
However, if you want to know who's doing well with people who aren't simply responding to the media coverage, listen to this:

16. Another myth
Dean is getting press coverage and so is Clark because they are leading in the polls!!!!! The media is not pushing Dean and I don't know how anyone can't get that impression. The only one the media is pushing is Bush.

8. Well, from everything I've seen...
...people under 25 support Bush. In addition, they make unwise choices in who to have relationships with, buy unhealthy crap, don't save enough, and really like the idea of OTHER PEOPLE volunteering to go fight wars.

I'd like to see our support among young voters improve, but think about it. Let's get the ones that want to be involved and informed on board, and let's hope the rest of them sleep in till 7pm after a hard monday night of responsible drinking.

11. Jeez ...
when the Zogby poll has dean in the lead, they're on the money. This comes out and now there's a large margin of error?

13. 10 +/-
which means Dean could be polling at 1% or 21% my point is ALL polls are inaccurate to what people want. Sharpton could have 24% or 4%. You twist my comment into supporting Dean but I said nothing about when Dean is in the lead they are on the money. I just don't think polls are 100% or even 90% accurate, even when Dean is in the lead.

4. Score more points for the media.
Media focuses on Dean many times more than ALL the other candidates put together. Hooray for Democrats. The media will tell us who is the Democrat for us.

7. lmao
The media is pushing Dean? :eyes: I guess you can say they are pushing Clark too because I always hear Clark being mentioned but not because they are pushing those two, it's because both are front runners and both are in the news. I kept hearing about Confederate flag comments all day on MSNBC, Fox, and CNN FOR THE LAST 3 days!!!! That is not pushing Dean, that is reporting on stuff that is in the news. But I guess I am aware that from your comments african-americans only vote for those the media tells them to vote for?

mong voters under 30 Dean only polls 4% (tied with Edwards) and Sharpton and Clark lead 16-16.

- How the hell does this work? We've got the largest youth network in the country and Sharpton and CLark have nothing.

9. How did the statistics change after the confederate flag comment?
Isn't that whole contraversy based on the idea that blacks are going to be offended by Dean's comment? I'd like to give african americans more credit in understanding what Dean actually meant.

15. God, this just gets me sick...
...with every successive poll that doesn't go DK's or Kerry's or Clark's way, we hear how it doesn't matter. Enough whining, enough complaining. YES, it's a year away from the election, YES, we're a ways off from the primaries, but be honest. If Kerry was up 20 on Dean in NH, or if DK was leading among black people, or if Clark was leading national polls, we wouldn't hear the end of it. So back off, lay off, and go work for your candidate, whomever he may be. Just don't clutter up these threads with whining and complaining.

Later.

17. I am a Dean supporter and yes it doesn't matter
It's just an opinion poll and the only polls that DO matter are the ones where people voluntarily cast a vote. Not the polls where the pollster calls your house and you simply give an answer.
