How would you argue with this conservative?
Names have been removed to spare the guilty one. also I cannot provde a link, it is a pay site.

the topic had to do with 911 conspiracy theories.

1st post: "Yeah right, and if you believe this junk, I've got a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn(that is if Bush doesn't blow it up first)....It's sad people believe this junk..they are either out in left field, or so mistrustful of our gov't they are blinded by the hatred, but I knew people who died on the pentagon plane, so I don't want to hear this stupid crap...REAL PEOPLE DIED on those planes folks...I'm sorry for you if you don't get it"

I posted: Yes real people died that day, and real people are dyig every day in Iraq that shouldn't be, and it's because of one mans policy who wasn't even elected to the office he holds.

What ever you believe one thing is for sure, Bush has fucked America bigtime.

Rsponses: "Billy you are so full of it. I am truly sorry for the death of any Americans In Iraq, but the truth of the matter is that we are better off because of our action there and what will be the subsequent democratization of the region. Don't forget that an average of 6 Americans are murdered in Los Angeles every day. Why don't we wring our hands over this too? It is because Bush haters are so angry that they want to beat the drum for his removal at every chance they get. I shudder when I think what the inventor of the internet (Albert Gore) would have done after 9/11."

another response: "Well, Billy, about Bush: Miss and Ky now have Republican Goveneurs this week 'cause Bush showed up last weekend. In both cases, democrates tried to threaten that voting for a Republican meant endorsing Bush economics and Bush foregin policy.

Billy, billy, bill, when are you going to wake up and look around you, where ever you are, you'll see the majority of the population thinks you're lost and out of touch and frankly ignore your dribble with their votes."

I respond: Bush continues to drop in the polls, as of 11/03/03 he is at 48% in the Zogby poll. I'm out of touch?

another response: "The polls in the form of the Republican successful elections this week in Miss and Ky say, yes, you are out of touch. Last year, for the first time in 150 years, Bush led to a Republican Senate and House. These are the polls of the American public. I'd think after a year to contemplate and analyze the public's voting for Bush et al, and with the success just this week, including the Califonia Governeurship, you'd be more sanguine about your posture which is out of step with the American public, Billy. If I were a Democrate I'd be yelling to get Tom Daschle and Miissss Poiseter, and that Demo Campgain head out -- whatever they have done the last year and a half have lost the Democrats State Governeurships, the Senate, the House while absent a credible focused campaign. The party is lost itself under current leadership and "Bush bashing" that just makes everybody want to exist democrates and vote for Bush and Republicans. That is what has happened."

Another response: "Billy, the real question is : how many huge elections do you want to lose before you do anything or do anything different from what you have been doing. Obviously, you have done nothing remedial about the abilities of the democratic party since you lost the first huge election last year under Bush. Now, this week, you lost another huge three States with Bush leading the way for Americans to vote for him, his foreign policy, and economics. Facts.

That 48% you posted, I'm surprised you did that because your having done it shows you have no idea how that 48% looks historically nor what the risks and possibilities are for it in the future.

It is a fact, the demise of the democratic party started with the Clintons, like it or not. Somebody smarter will have to put together programs and asipirations than 'bashing' anybody 'cuase 'bashing' has resulted in your own getting the bash. You plan to lose another huge election next year. Just keep it up."

I responded: Would you please explain to me what happened for Bush in PA this week? That State is critical for Bush getting elected, of course then there is Florida also, and 2000 won't happen here again. Jr is taking the same route his daddy did and we all know what happened there.

This time next year with Iraq, the Economy, Haliburton (guess you haven't been watching the news latley how they are ripping off the American taxpayer & also who is letting them do it) & the lies oh the lies.

One thing is for sure neither one of us knows for sure what is going to happen next Nov, but we will both most certainly be posting our thoughts until then.

P.S. oh how soon we forget the Clinton Bashing. Is your memory that bad?

1. I know it's cliche', but...
there's no arguing with someone like that. "I've made up my mind, don't confuse me with the facts."

Every bit of good news for Republicans is reinforcement that * and everything he does is 100% pure gold.

Every bit of bad news is just sour grapes, Democrats being "out of touch," liberal media, the Clintons, etc. Or some combination thereof.

Emphasize the hits, ignore the misses. Classic irrational delusion.

2. Your biggest mistake
is asking them questions, as if they're going to agree with you. Instead of asking them questions, make statements. Strong statements. Look at how they cram their points in (ex Clinton, Gore invented the Internet, the mid-term elections, Iraqis are better off with Saddam) in such short posts.

Learn from the pros

3. Simple: I wouldn't.
You can tell by the tone this person isn't interested in open dialogue. Unless you just like to argue just to get intense and fight, then the best strategy is to walk away and find somoene else more willing to listen and discuss things openly.

5. I hate the "xx people are murdered in yy city"
line. There is no comparison. For example, we have roughly 150,000 soldiers in Iraq. If the average was 2 deaths per day, that is 0.00133% casualty rate. Apply the same calculation to L.A.:

6 murder/day divided by 9,637,494 people in LA x 100%

= 0.00006% rate

which is 22.16 times LESS than the rate in Iraq.

6. Right off the bat,
Edited on Thu Nov-06-03 04:31 PM by MadMan
this "friend" of yours needs to be reminded that the conservative candidate in 2000 lost the popular vote by 540,000 (even more when you factor out the Greenie - the majority of those votes would have gone to Gore by all indications). There is no conservative bent in this country.

I would hammer home stupid Bush policies. Hell, he tried to raise the level of arsenic our children consume in their drinking water! He's trying to roll back environmental protections, even after a WHITEHOUSE report indicates the cost savings (in medical treatment) of those "burdensome" regulations was over $100B. He lied to us about why we HAD TO invade Iraq, then the neocons quickly changed their tune from the imminency of a US attack to a humanitarian mission to "free" the Iraqis. He's stonewalling 9/11 and Cheney's stonewalling energy task force records because he's got something to hide. Statements are usually more effective than questions, but one exception I would make is asking him "what do you think your president is hiding?" Let him ponder that for a moment.

Also, one effective strategy I use with my con friends (and believe me, your friend is tame compared to the invective I get from mine) is that I point out the factual truth to them and tell them they've been reduced to PERPETUATING LIES. The Al Gore invented the internet lie would be an excellent starting point.

I know I'm rambling, but I hope I've helped at least a little.

(edited for grammar)

7. It's unreal.
I've tried arguing with someone like that and it's pointless. Bush can do no wrong, and Clinton was evil. According to him, Clinton had his dog killed because he knew too much. I really think these people believe stuff like that.

9. I remember the dog deal!
That was when the Clinton's were out of town and the dog got out of the yard and was run over by a car, right?

Do you remember the wingnuts saying that the Clinton's weren't even qualified to be pet owners?

Part of the reason I hate Bush (I know his regressive and dishonost policies are more than enough reason) is because I'm just returning the favor, in kind. There was nothing but contempt for Clinton therefore I will show nothing but contempt for Bush (I would have anyway, but now I get to call it revenge and that feels good. OMG! Did I just sin? Am I going to hell now?).
