There have been numerous SCOTUS rulings on the 2nd Am and ALL OF THEM have found that the 2nd Am applies to a state regulated militia, not the citizenry. The framers feared that an overzealous and armed federal gov't would run roughshod over states so they introduced the 2nd Am which gave states the right "in a well regulated militia" to defend themselves against such tyranny.

That's not to say that the 2nd Am or any other part of the Const explicitly denies the right for a citizen to bear arms. And that's the disingenuous part of the 2nd Am lie - proponents of guns claim that those of us who interpret the 2nd Am as the SCOTUS has so many times before are saying that they don't have the right to own a gun. That's disengenuous. What we're saying is that the Const doesn't give them the right. Same thing with driving. The Const does not grant us the right to drive. It's a priveledge that can be revoked. Gun ownership should be treated the same way.

Personally, I would never deny Joe Blow the right to defend his family from intruders. I just don't think the 2nd Am explicitly grants that right.
