Poll question: You're out in public somewhere
let's say a shopping mall, a restaurant or even a crowded street.

Suddenly you hear someone spouting out the most vilest, really ugly, nasty reich-wing rhetoric...

What will you do?

1. Other: It all depends
On just how obnoxious they're being, on how close the quarters are in which the conversation is happening, and probably on the content of the right-wing talking points.

In general, I'd leave them alone, unless they were trying to make a statement designed for the consumption of all those around them. Then they're fair game.

2. Sometimes I say something
but today's conservatism is a cult. No matter how much reality you throw at them it just bounces off.

3. I'd turn-on the flames.
Not much of a flamer, but I can get a pretty good loud gay voice going. I'd pretend to recognize the person an cry-out to them, begging them to take me back, and that I would indeed wear the diaper in bed whenever they'd want me to. Then I'd say, "Don't you remember that night in (insert local gay bar name here) where you said we'd be together forever?"

hehe!

5. it depends
If my kids are with me I would merely watch and then tell my children to remember this person as a good reason to stay informed or they'll end up like that.

If alone I might let go with an "Amen brother!! Seig heil!!" or something.

No telling though, I like to go with the moment. ;-)

6. Ignore it all at 32%...
And people wonder why it is so believable. Maybe this is one reason.

8. I will generally ignore them......

...Unless I am in the mood to have a little fun with them.

Awhile back I was eating at Denny's when a junior exec wannabe type sitting at the counter started in with the right wing mantra, loudly and a little too obnoxious to ignore. So I engaged him in conversation and led him into an extremely derogatory rant about labor unions.

What he didn't notice was the two tables and a booth full of truck drivers, all Teamsters sitting behind him. He kept up the rant until one of the larger drivers told him to shut his damn mouth. When he turned around and saw all of them sitting there,he turned white as a ghost. I thought he was going to hurl!!!;)

7. we were at a kay granger town-hall meeting...
when a man came to the mike and started spewing anti-immigrant trash, calling mexicans "thieves, dirty, etc". i was shaking i was so pissed. my wife was looking at me, wondering what i was going to do.

he left the mike, and a good number of people started CLAPPING!

almost involuntarily, i jumped to my feet and yelled halfway across the auditorium "YOU ARE A DISGUSTING PIG!!!".

Immediately the clapping ceased. i hope it at least made them realize what they were clapping for.

later, i went out for a smoke. a woman was leaving and said "you were pissed. i dont blame you."

11. In ancient Rome poor farmers sold their rotten eggs, tomatoes to the mob..
Edited on Fri Nov-07-03 10:28 PM by burr
it would provide the comman people with a way of expressing their hatred toward the tyrants running Rome, and it would allow poor farmers to get rid of their spoiled goods while making a profit.

Why can't we allow this today? If people could throw rotten eggs at the President..I don't think you would see the same degree of assassination attempts or anger toward the political system. If people agree, they will cheer. If citizens disagree..give them the right to throw rotten eggs and tomatoes at politicians!

17. And another thing occurs to me....
pass a law requiring public officials to make all lenthy political speeches in landfills, then people can throw any kind of trash at them..without destroying the environment in the process!!
:argh:

Great isn't it?..get rid of your trash for free, while throwing it at lying politicians!!!

19.  Wise words

I have a 90 mile commute each way to work, and I will tune into the right wing radio shows to listen to the latest trash they are spewing so I can formulate intelligent responses to the rhetoric in order to have them handy when it is time to do battle. I have to turn it off after while though,it gets to be a bit much.
