The McLaughlin Group depressed the hell out of me tonight....
the part on the South and 2004. They had a map of the states with two Repug Sens, two Dems and split. They named the 5 Dem Sens. definitely not running or possibly not running (Edwards, Graham, Breaux, Miller, and one more, I forget....of course, Breaux and Miller are useless anyway).
Buchanan said that Kentucky would be in play, which is a negative for the Dems. They talked about the difference in money...Eleanor Clift, usually one to perk me up, didn't. She said money would be a huge factor...(the Repugs have tons more). Blankley said the Dems are out of touch with the South on taxes, prayer, abortion, etc. etc....mainly the cultural factors and Dean from Vermont won't relate at all.

I just felt so deflated, esp. after catching Shields and Safire earlier on PBS on the News Hour. Safire said they will blow out Dean if he's the nominee. So, Safire says he's for Dean.

On both shows, there was lots of talk about Dean's Confederate flag gaffe.

And, lucky us, David Brooks comes back to PBS now that's he's "settled in" at the NY Times, which Safire reminded us was LIBERAL.

God, no wonder I usually skip this stuff....my stomach is still in knots.

1. Bluntly
we need to win IL, AK, OK, and PA if we are to have any chance of breaking even in the race for the US Senate.

2. Blankley is a real bag of gas
I'm getting so sick of him, I might stop watching McLaughlin, or at least I'll keep the mute button handy.

3. At least you're a realist
That show will surely leave you feeling mugged. Did Safire remind you that the NYT is the paper that employs him?

There are posts here that think the attacks on the positive job numbers are a good idea. Avoiding reality is not a good plan.

Just because the economic numbers are looking better is no reason to fade away. Remember it all comes down to nominating a candidate who comes across as more qualified than Bush. I'd say if a candidate can't at least do that then they don't deserve to win.

6. I agree with that sentiment 100%
The contrast must be based on qualifications.

4. cheer up
the voting machines are fixed anyway. We are doomed.

But hey, SAFIRE IS OUTA THERE!! YEAH!

made my day!

Brooks is a fair and balanced genius compared to that a*hole.

And Shields had a wonderful, positive take on Dean's confederate flag remark. Quite sensible.

cheered me up, even though we are doomed. Sigh.

However, I now believe that once people find out for real about the voting machines, that the revolution will definitely go forward. We won't stand for it, and the military will be with us, not them!

5. I forgot to add that both Shields and Safire both nodded and
solemnly agreed that Wes Clark has "faded away."

That may or may not be true, but what sickens me is the seemingly monolithic nature of everything we see and hear, even on PBS. I mean, Washington has completely gone to the whores and I think most of PBS is tainted. Moyers is on (if he's on in most PBS markets, who knows?) almost as a token in terms of the type of quality you could once expect from PBS but now rarely see.
