Why the delay in releasing the Uday/Qusay pictures?
Heard on the news that Rumsfeld says the pictures will be released, just not right away?

Tinfoil hat time: what are they waiting for? Are the corpses so old that the regular makeup, airbrushing and photoshopping still won't make it look like they were killed just this week? Does the 200-4 ratio leave bodies so shredded that it's taking all the king's horses and all the king's men much longer than they planned to put Uday and Qusay back together again?

Inquiring minds want to know...

1. It's hypocritical to release the pictures
Edited on Wed Jul-23-03 06:12 PM by kcwayne
When the Iraqis showed dead US soldiers on TV, the administration absolutely howled in protest. It has been pointed out to them that displaying the dead bodies of the Iraqis is

1) Against UN mandates (like they care)

2) Hypocritical (how will they bitch when more American dead are bandied about on Al Jazeera).

2. They are waiting for another "bad news" day!
Just like they timed Lynch homecoming and the Uday and Qusay killings in time to help Rice, and the 911 report.

3. They are doctoring the photos to make them look like Saddams boys.
Just like the Oswald pic(standing at an impossible angle, shadows in wrong places, disprortioned size of the head) that came out after the JFK assasination.

4. if it's not them we'll know soon
If U and Q are still alive Saddam will be all over this opportunity to strike at US credibility and make W look like a fool. If they're still alive a simple video tape to Al-J is all it'll take.

I heard a guy on NBC just now saying he's seen the pictures and they're pretty gruesome, so they have been shown to people, just not released to the public yet.

5. Are they more gruesome than this?

That's a poor excuse for not showing Saddam's sons. I'm sure we've all seen much worse.

7. sorry
I didn't mean to imply they weren't releasing them because they're too gruesome. Since they will be released eventually and the gruesomeness will (presumabely) still be there, that's not a legit reason.

I was just pointing out that they HAD been shown to people. I don't know why they're delaying it - quite frankly govt can be a pretty heavy bureaucracy sometimes, and releasing images from a war scene may have to go through some sort of clearance process. I don't know, I'm just thinking out loud. Maybe they're just going to wait until tomorrow morning/late tonight for maximum effect with news coverage. Maybe they want to wait for DNA results to make sure these AREN'T body doubles. Could be a lot of things.

8. Didn't mean to be so rough
Maybe I've been looking at too much of this stuff, but I think it is something we all need to do.

The picture I posted was from two days ago in Liberia, when the Liberian people were piling dead bodies in front of the US Embassy. That picture was released within hours of it being taken.

With the WH crying wolf every other day, it starts to get old, when they start making excuses again. This is not an isolated incident, it is a pattern of behavior and so far most of their behavior has been based on lies.

11. not at all
I didn't think you were rough - after rereading my post I could see how it came across as saying that the pictures weren't released because of the gruesomeness, in which case you made a very good point. No worries.

In fact, I would've used a MORE gruesome picture. The one you used was just people lying down - I know they're dead but it's not really gruesome in that immediate reaction way. It's more sad because in your head you know they're dead, even though they look somewhat peaceful just lying there. Anyway, the picture I always think of is from the war in Iraq, the one of the old man carrying the little girl whose leg was blown off. You could see the bone hanging down from her knee, shredded skin around it. THAT was gruesome, and it tugged at your heart immediately.

6. hey,
call me stupid, but we are supposed to believe that Saddam has all these 'doubles'- wouldn't it make sense that the sons did too?

Hard to imagine the 14yr old grandson as a 'double'-....

There is some saying about what we 'fear' other people doing to us, reveals more about the darkness inside US- than our enemies-

We've been a pretty dark nation these last 3 yrs.

13. Forgive My Ignorance...
But isn't releasing photos of the bodies of those killed in war a violation of Geneva Conventions?

15. Since when have the Geneva Conventions stopped these people
before? They delight in breaking long-standing treaties and agreements.
