2. Yes, it's pretty interesting.

(snip)

Episode one begins in 1898 with the Spanish-American War and, after flashing backward to trace the Civil War-era roots of American war reporting, goes on to explore the role of political commitment in war coverage during the first half of the 20th century. Through the experiences of Martha Gellhorn, Ernie Pyle, Andy Rooney, Walter Cronkite and others, the film examines the ways in which a belief in the rightness of the cause led to an emphasis on the noble and heroic aspects of battle, and to an unprecedented level of cooperation between the military and the press.

Episode two (tonight's episode) charts the erosion of that consensus during the Cold War conflicts in Korea and Vietnam, and examines the backlash against the media that took place in the more recent conflicts in Grenada, Panama and the Persian Gulf. The episode also explores the role of technology in shaping the current relationship between the military and the press.

5. I was hoping others were watching
my internet has been down so couldn't get online to see if there was a thread following.
I think if enough people were to watch this and compare it to today's news, they would want the media to stop pushing a party line, give the news in depth and in honesty, and let the administration be damned.

where is our Morley Safer in Iraq? after the latest bombings, maybe there will be an honest, filter be damned report to turn the hearts and minds of the american public...

can only hope.

3. Great documentary. Showed how media now like media in Viet Nam
administration now, hiding info and lying just like we did in Viet Nam. soldiers now killing innocents and facts being hidden just like in Viet Nam. Futility of Iraq war, just like Viet Nam.

Watch Nightline tonight.

4. We are doomed to repeat history - watch this show!

This is a great show, though heartbreaking. This war is looking more and more like Vietnam, not in terms of jungles and high casualty figures, but in being trapped in a war where we are losing Iraqis' "hearts and minds." The Iraqis are not stupid; they know we are not there out of our great love for them, but to establish a colonial regime. We will lose this war. We have already lost it. And we shall reap the whirlwind. I believe, and have believed, that this is a far more immoral war than Vietnam, which was more a series of blundering mistakes that led us to disaster. This time, it was a coldly calculated thrust backed by lies that made the Tonkin Gulf Resolution look like a Christmas card. Bush and his crazies must go.
