Fair Trade Coffee to the Dems?
Edited on Wed Nov-12-03 10:05 PM by RainDog
Remember the flowers to Senator Byrd?

Wouldn't this be a great time to deliver some coffee to the legislators on the floor to show our support?

If someone on this board is in DC, maybe there's a locally owned coffee shop which sells free trade coffee? We could have them send over packs of ground coffee every couple of hours?

Anyone willing to do the logistics?

I'm getting ready to do my re-up with DU, and I'd like to contribute to a coffee action show of support.

4. LOL. Yes, I meant Fair Trade
organic, absolutely.

the dems could then share it with the repukes and tell them to all give themselves enemas to get rid of the poison which is threatening the body politic.

5. They can drink it while they take turns?
They're doing 2 hour stints, I'm sure they'd like some while getting ready for their turn.

9. C-SPAN mentioned
which rooms the Senators were using for their 'slumber parties' but I sure can't remember who is where... Someone needs to find that out, THAT would be the place to send the coffee. :donut:

Orrin Hatch, I HATE you, by the way, you effing slimeball. :nuke:

7. WTF?
Kids can buy soda and junk food at school but Senators can't have coffee?

That's just plain nutso. How do you know this, if you don't mind me asking?

By the way, welcome to DU.

13. I just called
A la Carte Express
Washington DC's Premier
Multi-Restaurant Delivery Service

which I found online, and, while they do deliver for several restaurants on Capitol Hill, they seemed to think I was nuts for wanting to get something delivered tonight.

I also wonder about the security issue. When we were in DC, even with our son (working for Sen. Feingold) leading us around, security for the Capitol, particularly anywhere NEAR the Senate floor, was incredibly tight. How could they be assured that the wonderful coffee that we sent wasn't really a thermos full of Ebola Virus?

ANOTHER PROBLEM, my son just called me back (I had called him to see if he knew of any place that could deliver - he's here in the WI office, now, was in the DC office for summer) - he said that they probably wouldn't be able to accept anything, given the Senate Ethics involved - they shouldn't get gifts as a reward for having a certain position on an issue. I'm sure that not all of the Senators are absolute sticklers, but if they're anything like Feingold, they wouldn't even SMELL the coffee without violating their own codes of conduct.

So I guess I'm going to be the wet blanket again and say I think it's a no go.

16. Thank you so much!
I appreciate your effort. I meant it as a show of support, but obviously I wouldn't want to violate any ethics...considering how ethical Bush and Cheney are, especially, and the high example they set for the nation. (SNARK)

Maybe we should just send some jiffy yellow cake mix to Cheney's Old Exec Offices to help remind them who leaked Plame's name to those six reporters because they didn't like Wilson's yellow cake uranium report.

That's not meant to be used...it's just a little theatrics.
