Another Great PBS Documentary on tonight

The name of it was, "Reporting America at War" PBS does it again with another riveting, informative documentary that follows journalists covering the war from WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, Grenada, Gulf WarI to the present day fiasco know as Operation Iraqi Freedom and how the coverage has changed over the years from the restrictions and censorship of our government.
It aired from 8:00pm CST til 9:30 and will re-air again at midnight CST. Check your local listings and try to catch it if you can.

as they were covering Vietnam. Morley Safer was tagging with some Marines who were burning down huts and displacing families, old men and women, babies, etc. He said it was the first time Americans had come to realize that our military wasn't the "cavalry riding over the hill to save everyone."

we could use a couple of Ernie Pyle-types now.
he was pretty much gung-ho when he started but later dispatches pulled no punches on the bloodshed and its effect on the soldiers.
wonder what his work would be like today?

and I didn't hear him mentioned. I kept waiting for a segment on him as I know he was probably the most pioneering and well respected war correspondent ever. I'm gonna watch it again when it re-airs in a little while. One of the best interviews was a guy from the NYT, Joe.. something he was detained and thrown out of Gulf WarI by the Pentagon, he was very pragmatic and a little disillusioned from his experiences in covering the more recent wars. Christianne Ammanpour was really holding back, I could tell she really wanted to bust loose, but knows she's still got to play the media game up to a point. Good interviews with Morley Saefer, Walter Cronkite and a guy named Halberstam, Peter Arnette, a woman reporter that covered Viet Nam any a few more. A nice expose of the future of war coverage ala Stormin' Norman and no news at all from Grenada due to Reagan.

A lot of it is 'old' tv, pre-cableprofitideologuemania.
