"GET Used To WAR"---says # 3 Pentagon guy
Edited on Wed Jul-23-03 08:01 PM by Capn Sunshine
Forgive me if this is a dupe. I just stumbled across it , LA Times from last week talking about the logistics of post war Iraq .
Talking with Douglas J. Feith, # 3 man at the Pentagon.

( last three paras of a loooooooooooooooong article!)
Looking back from the third floor of the Pentagon, Feith dismissed such criticism as "simplistic." Despite initial problems, he said, progress is being made, with order returning to most of the country and a new Iraqi governing council in place.

Still, he and other Pentagon officials said, they are studying the lessons of Iraq closely — to ensure that the next U.S. takeover of a foreign country goes more smoothly.:wow::wow::wow:

"We're going to get better over time," promised Lawrence Di Rita, a special assistant to Rumsfeld. "We've always thought of post-hostilities as a phase" distinct from combat, he said. "The future of war is that these things are going to be much more of a continuum

"This is the future for the world we're in at the moment," he said. "We'll get better as we do it more often."

Omit spaces on either side of "&"

9. Oh yeah? Oh fucking yeah?
Well...

Get used to dissent!
Get used to more people turning to better news sources which DO report the truth!
Get used to a huge mob of angry liberals responding to every little sneaky move with tons of email and petitions!
Get used to this mob growing bigger and bigger!
Get used to a peace movement which will keep on and get stronger even in the absence of "major combat"!
Get used to civil disobedience!

10. We've Been Here Before
People similar to Feith and Wolfowitz assured us 30 years ago that the pacification of Vietnam was inevitable, just give it some time. As American casualties mounted, the enemy got bolder. By 1968 we should have recognized that the war was unwinnable because there was nobody to turn the government over to. Eventually everybody agreed, Let's get out.

If these things take practice before we figure out how to do them, we're not learning the right lesson here. The home team always has a huge advantage. We are pretending we're not in a Vietnam-type situation, but our soldiers are dying, and we're not seeing any light at the end of the tunnel.

11. either work for a Democratic President or YOU will be drafted....
for shrub's already-on-the-drawing-board upcoming wars...there will be no escape, due to the U.S.A. P.A.T.R.I.O.T Act...have you written down anything that you are doing RIGHT NOW to put a Democratic President in office ????

or will you go like sheep to the slaughter ? or will you fight for your life and the lives of your friends and families NOW, while it can still be done....

"And what was left was sucked into the intake, trained for a period of months, and then went out, adding no value, no advantage, really, to the United States armed services over any sustained period of time, because the churning that took place, it took enormous amount of effort in terms of training, and then they were gone."

yes, that's exactly what happened, over 53,000 GONE and many more maimed....and YOU are next, unless you decide to get up NOW and start working for a Democratic President...

15. We are fucked
Truly fucked. Another chilling quote from this article:

Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld's civilian aides decided that they didn't need or want much help, officials in both departments say.

How McNamararian!

19. just thought about McNamara's Project 100,000...known in the
cruelty of the front lines in Vietnam as "McNamara's Morons", poor young men recruited to serve even if they couldn't read and write.

...they were tagged with the special serial number "67" to identify them for fellow soldiers and officers, which resulted in very unfair treatment.

From 1967 through 1971, military recruiters enlisted or drafted more than 350,000 young men with an average 6th grade education. Most were sent right from basic training into combat. Many performed poorly. Many couldn't read or write well enouth to follow written instructions passed along in a bunker. Many died at the front. Survivors often got discharged for "less than honorable" service, which deprived them of Veteran's Benefits, and treatment of their war wounds.

As of November 2002, the VA has assigned ONE person to find these recruits and help them get their benefits reinstated by petitioning to overturn the discharge. Some were deprived of their Veterans benefits for "missing bed checks" or "being insubordinate to superior officers" or "enuresis (bed-wetting)".

16. PNAC
PNAC plan is to be involved in multiple simultaneous wars...this is outrageous, but not surprising from the PNAC Pentagon.

And why not? Look how high *'s approval ratings are during a war. And look at the opportunities for Halliburton, etc. War is a big win-win for BushCo.

17. We need to exploit these words for our own political purposes
I can't think of a better way to get out the 18 to 26 year old vote in 2004 than to use these words. Let's put this ball into play and figure out how to turn it into a vote for Bush is a vote for the draft (or a vote for war). That's the thought, but we need to work on the words.

If we can figure out how to exploit these words for our advantage, we should really be able to get out the vote from this age group in 2004. What do you think?
