What would the media do if a DEM said: "I hope all Southern Baptists die"
In the context of a "funny joke" of course, like Jebs smear.

Do you think the media would write it off as "all in good fun"...

The media is going to give Jeb a pass for his hate speech- would they do the same for us? Of course not.

1. Let's find out.
I hope all Southern Baptsits die! Especially my good friends who are Southern Baptists. And my former Physics teacher. Yeah, I hope she dies! All those Southern Baptists keep electing Republicans to TX government, so I hope they die. HAHA! HAHA! And Jimmy Carter too!

I'd guess that they won't even notice that I said it.

However, if a Dem Senator said this, he/she would probably be crucified, and most of the Baptists would never be able to find the irony.

http://www.sptimes.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/APState.woa/wa/story?id=FL_Bush_San_Francisco

Associated Press, November 12, 2003 - 04:31 PM

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.

Gov. Jeb Bush joked during a Florida Cabinet meeting Wednesday that the people of San Francisco may be endangered and, "That's probably good news for the country."

The subject was environmental land and Bush was looking at a map of showing locations with a lot of different wildlife at the time.

"It looks like the people of San Francisco are an endangered species, which may not be a bad thing. That's probably good news for the country."

People in the room broke into laughter

"Did I just say that out loud?" the governor asked.

5. He said that
the people in San Fransisco are an endangered species and that is probably good news for the country.

Why did he say it? Was it because of the liberals in the city or was it because of the many homosexuals who live there? Was it a reference to AIDS? I take huge offense to that.

28. Imagine if anyone dared say that if New Yorkers
were an endangered species? Some would accuse Jeb of being antisemititc because NYC is so identified as a very Jewish city, but it's OK to slander San Francisco!

I like SF better than Florida. As far as I'm concerned Florida can fall off the coast and we can give Texas back to the Mexicans.

See, in W's America, it's perfectly fine to berate, harass and even threaten murder against liberals. If however, you should say anything slightly off-kilter about rightwingers, well, then, my friend, you have crossed the line of decency and of course a marathon bitch-and-moan session will ensue over the hate radio and corporate airwaves.

You can make threatening sounds toward liberals, if your name is Ann Coulter! You can out CIA agents and get by with it! AND If you're name is Bush, Jeb Bush, you can even have a go at SanFrancisco!

Hell no they wouldn't....
That group is the biggest bunch of "Do as I say, not as I do!" types I have ever seen. It goes through all levels of thier sect. DISGUSTING!!!

I have to tell you though, after some days driving around Dallas, I can't totally disagree with the "I hope all Southern Baptists die" sentiment. Those ones, specifically, cheese me off pretty bad. The only other group of folks I pretty much want to throttle on sight more than the Southern Baptists are pro-lifers. And in a lot of cases I'd be killing two birds with one stone on that one.

And then I get home and throw in the Jon Stewart tape from the week and I feel a little better.

RANT now endith!

Because that is as bigoted a remark as I have ever heard falling from the likes of David Duke or Al Sharpton. There are, you know, moderate Southern Baptists http://www.layman.org/layman/news/news-around-church/s-baptist-group-joins-ncc.htm

And even the conservative ones don't deserve to die.

18. I didn't say I would kill anyone...
Just some days the stuff I see makes me so mad, I just want to spit. I have lived in Texas all my life and have NEVER seen a group (not all Southern Baptists, just the loud hateful ones) more horrid and holier than thou. It has been my experience that the loudest ones are usually the ones that are the most hateful and dangerous to other's freedoms and rights. Too damn many of them want to mind MY business and not their own. There are extremists in every group of anything (radical vegetarians come to mind).

I have been personally accosted by more Southern Baptists trying to save me or telling me I am going straight to hell than I care to remember with any detail. If you have the same group of people bugging you over and over again long enough telling you that you are a sinner and that you are going to roast in hell, you would develop a bit of a seething distaste for that group.

Bigoted? A bit. Prejudiced? Somewhat. But these kinds of impressions come from somewhere. And any group that would make hatred of gays and Jews part of their operating platform isn't going to get a whole lot of sympathy from me. As a Jew, I do not want to be converted. As a person with many gay friends, I know they don't want to be converted. And even the conservative ones don't deserve to die. I can imagine that at least a few of them wouldn't shed a tear if all the gays and Jews in the world all dropped dead one day.

So say what you like about "moderate" Southern Baptists... It is the loudmouthed radical ones that make any of the reasonable ones look bad.

20. did Jeb say
he was going to kill anyone. If you don't like their trying to convert you, do what I do, tell them you aren't interested. works for Mormons, works for Jehovah's witnesses, and it works for Baptists too. Then forget it.

Criminy. I don't mean this as personal to you, so please don't take it this way. there is on this board, and out in the world, for that matter, a whole lot more sensitivity than is good for our mental health. Everybody, left and right, is eager to be offended. Remarks that are not meant in malice are caught and run with. I just think everybody should chill out a little. Since I have learned to do it, my life has been a whole lot more pleasant.

21. I would love to...
I try really hard to stay out of these types of things. I generally work on the premise of "Thall shalt not bug thy neighbor."

Problem is that I get screwed with ALL THE TIME!!!
I have a

on my car that has been vandalized.

I have a

doormat that has been stolen off my doorstep.

So if I've developed a bit of a sensitivity to this kinda of stuff I feel it is somewhat justified. I have dealt with the door-to-door types you mentioned and you are correct, they repectfully leave if you tell them you are not interested. I have lost several friends of many years after they found the Southern Baptist version of Jesus because they felt they couldn't be friends anymore with anyone they knew they wouldn't see in heaven.

I trust your neighbors will be more respectful in the future.

You say Jeb did not advocate killing anyone.

Perhaps not, but endangered means "about to die"

I would love for him to clear it up. but since he is a republican, the GOD DAMNED MEDIA will not ask him.

Just which San Franciscans was he talking about? Naval Veterans? Gay folks? AIDS victims? Chinese and mexicam immigrants??

Just who was he talking about when he said there death would be a "good thing"????

I'll assume the worst until THE GOD DAMNED MEDIA asks him the ques5tion I just did.

I just think we should not leap to the worst conclusions. That is to say, I'm willing to cut my worst enemy a little slack, as long as they will let me. Why should I draw the line at Jeb, just becasue I have some political differences with him. I'm too lazy to waste my anger and energy on Bullshit trivia.

I advise it for others. so many people on this board are not. Something is funny when WE say it, but not when THEY say it. This is inconsistent, to say the least.

I frankly don't care what Jeb Bush says; I don't vote in Florida, but if I did, I wouldn't vote for him. what he does is much more important. But, as we have seen recently, hateful comments that get made on this board have a way of making it to FOX news and the American people.

He'd say he meant the rabid liberals, too many would agree and would condone his remark.

Other statements he made didn't hurt him- there was his "evil plan" gaffe about the class size amendment and he said some racially devisive thing (I don't remember) DURING his last campaign. And ther WAS press on those.

The confounded tragedy is that someone like Jeb, who would foster such hate between people, ever made it to a position of leadership.

Of course, the media failed to cover the story at any depth.
