3. Lanny Davis has always been a nutcase.
Why do you think all these CON-servative networks have him on? It certainly isn't to give the DEMS a boost.

11. Says you.
Lanny Davis has been a stand-up guy and a great voice for our party, and he is not the least bit a "nutcase". Something is going on that none here understands - yet.

Melinda
But to you I'm a Proud Liberal Democrat refusing to turn on her own.

5. Okay
Let's talk about how Bush exposed Wilson's wife, a felony. Or what about the aluminum tubes? Or the massive stockpiles of chem and bio weapons, and the means to launch them? Or Saddam's ties to Al Queda? What about Cheney's energy papers, complete with maps of Iraq's oil fields? Maybe we should get past these 16 words; there's much more to talk about.

12. Lanny is right ...
The media, as usual, took those 16 words and turned that into the issue when it never was the issue. It is either their laziness or stupidity but the whole thing ... except for Matthews, is about those 16 words.

But it is actually about a pattern of deception designed to pull the nation, through the use of carefully selected facts, tweaked intelligence, fear mongering, and the use of every deceitful tactic known to man.

We should move past the 16 words. Waaaaaaay past. The whole 16 words is part of the Bush strategy and no one should get sucked into it.

20. Looking at the big picture.
Is that his point ? Seems like that big picture angle you are talking about is really what should be up...take the big picture, and milk the various deceptions and spins....to build a case against Bush and his crowd.

16. Clinton's a brilliant politician, and what he sees is a losing
issue. Every poll shows Republicans over Dems on national security. If we emphasize an issue that pushes national security to the forefront, we are focusing the electorate on an issue on which they trust the Republicans more. What Clinton, I suspect, is pushing is to play to our strengths, not our weaknesses.

18. Then it is up to Dems to offer their alternative
with intelligence and internationalism and NOT accept the Republican war-mongering as the model to aspire to.

Clinton is excusing grievous lies to cover his own part in the screw-up.

21. Not saying to be the Republicans on national security issues
or changing a policy stance. Its a matter of emphasis. Push the debate into the areas where we are strong with the public.

The George Bush I Knew
By LANNY J. DAVIS
ASHINGTON -- I remember the moment well: About 33 years ago, George Bush (we never used the "W" back then) was sitting among a group of us in a college common room at Yale, engaged in one of our late-night comment-on-everyone sessions. Someone made an acerbic comment about a fellow student who was considered one of the biggest nerds on campus. There was laughter. Then George said: "Hey, it's not so easy for him. He's a good guy — leave him alone." We all quieted down.

Looking back, I can see the quality of empathy that has been central to George's political success and will be important as he assumes the presidency. I also remember other qualities, some in evidence during the recent campaign, that he may have to overcome in the next four years.
