Iraq Death Toll Military by State - where does your state stand?
Sadly my state of Pennsylvania is 3rd. This chart was also in Newsweek I believe. Only states not hit yet are Montana and West Virgina. Note the toll Puerto Rico and America Samoa has paid. Be interesting to see original country of non-citizen soldiers who died in U.S. forces.

1. casualties
Whenever some soldier dies in a particular state the media coverage of the tragedy is multiplied even further. All those casualties in Michigan and Pennslyvania are replayed in local media markets in Detroit, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and more. That cannot be good for *.

2. Alaska and (big sigh of relief) Hawai'i not hit yet either
Only states not hit yet are Montana and West Virgina.

though in our case, it hardly matters, since we consider the soldiers from other states who are (or were) based here to be our neighbors. :(

Good point re: American Samoa. Did you know that the American Samoans are NOT U.S. citizens? They are U.S. nationals, which means they have the right to travel and work in the U.S., but not vote (or, apparently, collect certain Social Security benefits). We could have used five or ten thousand of those votes last Nov., believe me.

3. Chart I saw (believe it was Newsweek) had Alaska and Hawaii

On edit:

Hawaii
Army Staff Sgt. Cameron B. Sarno 43 Waipahu, Hi. Accident (land) 9/1/03

Couldn't find Alaska on list of casualities, but I believe magazine photo of map with killed on each state had one in Alaska. Maybe they made a mistake.

List I reviewed:

4. California has the most?
You would think that the wingnuts would be more respectful to a state that's taking the brunt of the war dead. Instead they like calling it "The Left Coast" or "Caliphonyland".
