1. None of the above!
Candidates can't afford to offend people.

Others have to have widespread respect and no discernable hobbyhorse or vested interest.

And the Pope certainly isn't going to do it.

2. Somebody has got to.
The religious right cannot continue to call those who are not republicans "communists, traitors, unpatriotic, unamerican, trash, and other derogatory terms" with impugnity.

The religious right has to be made aware that this country is a democratic republic and never intended to be a theocracy.

The religious right, most of whom I believe to be decent people, need to remember the Christ was not a capitalist, nor did Christ hate the poor because of their need, and indeed, openly stated to his apostles to go from town to town as beggars.

The religious right has to be told that their faith is supporting a regime of greed, shallowness, hypocracy and armaments.

The religious right has to be told that the only thing having protected them from being told, until now, that they are being used as an unassailable front behind which really awful people are hiding, is that the rest of us respected and did not want to interfere with their beautiful beliefs.

Somebody has to do it. These hideous acts hidden behind the innocent Christian right cannot continue....

7. Too bad that peace isn't enough...

More than that, I think, they need to be told that the rest of us actually support and affirm the teachings of Christ as you stated them above and point out the discontinuities between those teachings and the way the administration is conducting itself.

The thing I see is that some Christians seem to believe in a more Calvinist interpretation of Christianity that links material prosperity with being pleasing to the Creator. That is not what Christ taught. Christ did not promise wealth or power or even democracy as a reward for a good life. He only promised peace.

See why we say followers of Christ (as opposed to 'Christians')
belong in the Liberal ranks of the Democratic Party.

5. Organizations like the ACLU, People for the American Way, Americans
United for Separation of Church and State, Freedom from Religion, The American Humanist Association, and liberal denominations of religions of all varieties, such as the Quakers.

This issue is too important to be delegated to the politicians and officeholders. It belongs to the citizens.
