1. Why?
Good God, man. Why? But since you have, any highlights you wish to share, or has it been a snooze fest?

4. Actually, Santorum is quite the entertainer...
He bitched about that pesky "Right to privacy" for quite some time. Seems he thinks that "privacy" is not a right, but the result of "judicial activism"...

I kid you not- he actually said that Americans have no right to privacy- Honest Injun.

that boy is a trip, I tell ya....

10. he is right
the constitution does not mention privacy at all. however it has been read into several aspects (4th amendment for example) it is not an explicit right, and yes judges kinda technically made it up.

14. Bill of Rights
IV - Right of search and seizure regulated

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against
unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable
cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the
persons or things to be seized.

- There is a 'right to privacy' implied in the 4th amendment.

16. Privacy is also implied by the 1st , 5th, 9th and 14th amendments...
Edited on Fri Nov-14-03 09:29 AM by Dr Fate
So Santorum is not "technically right", he is tecnically wrong.

How can we have free political association w/o privacy?

How can we have "life and liberty" w/o privacy?

Judges did "make it up"- they are peripheral rights- without them, the specifically expressed rights would weaken as a result.

It's a no-brainer. Ir=t would be impossible to enjoy our express rights w/o privacy- Judicial review recognized this- it's not "made up" at all...

17. In the case of the 4th, Privacy is more than implied...
...looks to me like that whole Amendment is about nothing but privacy- How could the 4th Amendment even be enforced w/o privacy?

Just because the word is not used, does not mean the concept is absent...Come on folks, we are smarter than that...

15. Is the fact that Court decisions are also considered law, shocking?
Edited on Fri Nov-14-03 09:51 AM by The Backlash Cometh
It is part of the constitutional process, you know.

7. They covered the 168 to 4 placards on PBS/Lehrer last night
I cannot remember which Democrat brought in these visual aids, but he had giant placards with a 168 and a 4. Good use of TV time.

12. Its llike shooting fish in a barrel
I live in the Pacific Time Zone, woke up at 2am this morning and started watching CSPAN II. I know that as a member of 'the choir(as in preaching to the choir), I am not totally unbiased, but, jeez, watching the debate between the Dems and the Repukes is like watching a bunch of 5th graders against a Harvard trained debating team. Its funny. Can Senator Bill(Dr Joseph Mengele to any living cat) Frist really be proud of his team?
Ole Orin is babbling as I type, and I fear I am watching the beginning of apoplexy.
What is the point of this? How in the world is going to change their mind?
Little Ricky is now treating armeggedon. Mothers, hide your virgin dogs. Little Ricky is out and about.
Maybe the pink tutu Senate Democrats are gone, replaced with standup people, with real backbones. Its about time.
