Letter from Selective Service
This was also posted at the anti-war group list from one of the members.

Subject: U.S. Raises Possibility of Conscription - DRAFT - is CLOSER than you Think!

Tonight I just learned my best friend - who has 3 Sons - 19, 21 and 23
Years old -

Her 19 year old son's best friend who is a fellow student in a college
in California just got a

Letter from the Selective Service,

Saying that "If the Draft Starts, He will be one of the FIRST Ones
Called up to GO."

--- Makes you THINK --- WHY WOULD THE DOD BE SENDING YOUNG COLLEGE KIDS LETTERS REGARDING THE DRAFT UNLESS THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUS ABOUT TO HAPPEN?

THEY JUST DON'T SEND LETTERS LIKE THIS OUT OF SPECULATION OR EVERY DAY.

FORWARNED IS FORARMED - WITH KNOWLEDGE.

5. Urban legend is good enough for me.
Republicans won in 2000 because Al Gore claimed he invented the internet.

I have no problem with Democrats winning in 2004 because Republicans have a secret plan to restart the draft.

12. hey, good point! In that case
let these rumors fly fly fly!

Besides, the selective service IS filling draft boards, and I myself saw firsthand (but what was it?) some kind of framed poster (covered in brown paper, darn it) that had been framed for the National Selective Service HQ with a notation that said "Must have by November 14." It was at my local (Arlington VA) frameshop. Wish I'd asked what it was...!

8. Agreed. There's been NO rumblings about the draft.
I'd like to see more.

4. Are you sure that it wasn't a letter telling them to register?
Those are always sent out.

Otherwise, I can't fathom how there has been any decision for who will be "the first to go" unless a lottery has been held, which is impossible.

Did she see the letter?

6. sounds like a fake to me
Although I wouldn't put a draft past Bushco if he gets reelected, I'd have to file this under "I heard it on the internet, it must be true" unless I hear otherwise.

11. Wolofitz on Draft - We Need This and We're Going to Get It
http://www.propagandamatrix.com/121103wolfowitzdraft.html

Snip:

October 28, 2003) The White House advisors have been making discreet inquiries on the Hill about the Bush plan to reinstitute a universal draft in America…this in spite of the potentially deadly reactions that could blast the President out of the White House. Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld are pushing this in spite of repeated warnings, even from inside the Pentagon, that this would be political suicide. “We need this and we are going to get it” Wolfowitz said to one of our senior editors on Monday.

13. "I got a letter from the government"

The other day
Opened it and read it
It said they were suckers
They wanted me for their army or whatever
Picture me given' a damn - I said never
Here is a land that never gave a damn
About a brother like me and myself
Because they never did
...
