Democrat in place of Democratic?
Am I the only one who has noticed that during the past few years, the term "Democrat" is being used when the correct term should be "Democratic"? (Examples: "Democrat Party", "Democrat Minority") It sounds less respectful (not to mention that they can emphasize the "rat" part at the end) and bugs me whenever I hear it. Has anyone else noticed this?

2. actually democrat is correct
and it makes me a little grinchy when i people use democratic rather than democrat. democrats are the democrat party not the democratic party -- it's not demeaning -- it's correct.

It's the Democratic National Committee

In my state, it's the Democratic Party of Wisconsin
(www.wisdems.org)

Is everyone wrong? :shrug:

"Democrat" is a noun.
"Democratic" is a verb.

In fact, there was a time long-ago when the Busheviks were actually called the Republican Party. In those ancient days, they actually referred to it as the Democratic Party.

But that was back in the days when America was still spelled with a 'c' and the American People actually had a say in electing their National Leaders.

They've been doing this on purpose for awhile. Even some news commentators are starting to do it (well, Fox commentators, anyway).

Bugs me, too. I complain when I hear it from someone who should know better.

5. I think that's a sensitive point for most of us
I don't mind it actually, because it gives away the speakers proclivities and renders their psyops useless. Not that they would have succeeded anyway.

6. Oh yes
It is one of my worst pet peeves. Republics ;-) have taken to doing this often, and I even see DUers making the same mistake. "Democrat" emphasizes the "rat" ending, while "Democratic" is reflects on our proud system of government. It's no wonder the Republics want to break that association.

When I hear people say, "The Democrat Senator...". It sounds harsh and disrespectful. Especially when they say "The DemocRAT", accenting the RAT.

aside from sounding funny; it's grammatically incorrect. The word Democrat is a noun. Party is a noun. They two don't go together. Democratic is the correct word as it is an adjective describing Party and correct.
The word Republican doesn't follow that rule, unfortunately. It can be used as either a noun or adjective.

11. This is from the same family of slurs as "Jew Lawyer"
Take an adjective...reconjugate it into it's noun form. Use it as noun in place of adjective (this doesn't work with ethinicites or groups where the noun and adjective are the same, such as 'Russian')

Jewish Laywer; Jew Lawyer

Democratic Lawyer; Democrat Lawyer

See, the same thing...by the same type of Totalitarians (v2.0 -- the "kinder and gentler" version), in fact...

20. I've heard Bob Dole started it.
Whenever I hear someone say, "Democrat Party," my opinion of the speaker
plummets.

One thing I like about Dan Quayle was that at least he says "Democratic Party."

In his "wrap-up" speech before the cloture votes. Twice I heard him refer to the "Democrat Senators". I was a tad annoyed.

23. This is one of my major gripes!
And the worst part of it are the Democratic party members who sit on the talk show panels and let the Rethugs refer to the "Democrat party" with utter impunity!

What needs to happen is for Dems to wake up and demand respect! Whenever they hear this slur they need to speak out immediately! What's wrong with saying, "EXCUUUUUUSE ME! But the correct name is the Democratic Party and you are being disrespectful!"

If anyone here has an "in" with the DNC, I wish they would contact them and tell them we are sick of being disrespected!

Enough already!
