This week's Bill Moyers NOW - The bu$ine$$ of rebuilding Iraq, more...
http://www.pbs.org/now/thisweek/index.html
This week on NOW:

NOW examines how some big corporations' cozy ties to the White House may be leading to war profiteering, with taxpayers paying the price. As Congress has recently approved $87 billion dollars for Iraq and Afghanistan, new questions are being raised about how this money is being spent. With the details of many contracts hidden from public disclosure, who's getting the big bucks to rebuild Iraq? NOW follows the trail of who's getting the taxpayers' billions.

Former Congressman Bob Barr (R-MA) has been described as a "rock star" among conservatives. So what could have motivated him to join forces with the ACLU? Barr talks to David Brancaccio about his fight to stop the escalating erosion of liberties caused by the Patriot Act. Among his distinctions, Barr occupies the 21st Century Liberties Chair for Freedom and Privacy, serves as distinguished fellow with Oliver North's Freedom Alliance, and is a contributing editor for THE AMERICAN SPECTATOR.

During a career in politics in the 1960s, Stewart Udall was instrumental in the passage of The Wild and Scenic Rivers Act and the creation of The Land and Water Conservation Fund, and as the only person to serve as Secretary of the Interior for two Presidents, he is uniquely qualified to assess government's handling of environment over the last 40 years. In this wide ranging interview, Udall discusses environmental policies, the influence of money on politics, and his latest book, THE FORGOTTEN FOUNDERS, which counters the popular myth of how the American West was settled. A living part of American history, Udall talks about his work and his passions. He also recounts some fascinating life experiences, including the day that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.

2. I'll watch Barr.
If a conservative can see something good in the ACLU, that's an inroad we can all use.

11. When I saw Barr
and he was speaking out against the Patriot Act, I thought I was hallucinating. I spent most of the time he was on just trying to believe what I was seeing.

I pretty much assumed Barr was your garden-variety '94 Neocon. The role he played in Clinton's impeachment (as well as the fact that he goes shooting with Ted Nugent) would seem to bear that out.

Is it possible that this man is having a crisis of conscience?

Well?

14. No, I think Barr has always been
for the constitution which true conservatives are. I think Moyer even read a quote from him about neocons. Strange bedfellows.... NOW is excellent-loved the comment by the California congressman about how the repugs threw out the war profiteering part of the bill and why would they do that??

17. Some of those on the right...
Or old fashioned conservatives are very paranoid about the Government. So, it's not that hard to find some that hate the Patriot Act.

You would find yourself in agreement with a lot of survivalist-militia types living out in the wilderness on this issue, as well, heh.

23. Long live Dale Gribble!
The last few years have found me in agreement with a lot of people with whom, up until this point, I would never have contemplated possessing common viewpoints. I don't want to list who some of these people are, since it shames me deeply, but let's just say that the Bush II administration has put me in extremely ideologically uncomfortable situations on numerous occasions. To find myself in agreement with Bob Barr was certainly one such occasion.

I feel dirty.
