Woman president or Minority president?
Which one will we see first in America?

a) Woman

b) Non-Caucasian Minority

Keep in mind that Kennedy was the first and only Catholic, and I believe the only non-WASP as well.

2. Woman is more likely
50.9% of Americans are women... compared to 24.9% who are minorities (not that the categories are mutually exclusive)

Statistically speaking, there's really no contest.

But then, reality doesn't always conform to statistics.

6. Contrary to popular opinion,
I think a minority will come first. Women are still considered second citizens in the US. A man, any race or color, is still a man. People view Colin Powell, Tiger Woods, Denzel Washington, etc. as people. A woman is only 1/2 of a person to many US voters. I believe a minority man will be deemed presidential before a woman will be. Personally, I would love a woman president (if she was a good liberal Dem!).

7. women could vote before minorities could
Edited on Fri Nov-14-03 08:58 PM by Independent429
so I don't think the 1/2 a person thing measures up. More likely narrow-minded men and women will think of women as too "womenly" and not tough enough to kick some ass on defense/national security.

10. I think it will be a minority, most likely a repub/conservative
type because that would be a non-threatening minority (like Colin Powell). I think there are still a lot of people who wouldn't think a woman would be presidential material. But I think a woman would get in the WH before an athiest would. I also think there are a number of people who wouldn't vote for a Jewish person for president; anti-semitism has been continuing to rear its ugly head among a number of groups.

12. Supporting Palestine != Anti-Semitism
If a Jewish candidate would stand solidly with Sharon, then progressives would not vote for him. Whoever does run will need the progressive vote. Conservatives prolly would not vote for him anyway.

argh..too much time at the computer, I'm taking a break

11. Black Lesbian Buddhist Preferrably, But I Think CMB Could Make It
if someone picked her as VP. Hillary could easily win. Who knows if Colin Powell would run, but he'd be a contender.

I really don't think race/gender are a big deal to most voters.. just to repukes.

13. Could be both, and a Rethug
Seems to me they're setting Rice up for 2008. War could be blamed on Rummy, who doesn't stay for 04, and Condi takes his place. Cheney can't run for prez, who better for the Republicans than someone who can attract black and women voters?
