Fox News lies about ABC News Primetime Live
During tonight's "Fox News Watch" (November 15, 2003), Jim Pinkerton said, "this isn't like ABC planting rotten meat."

ABC didn't plant rotten meat.

Jim Pinkerton was referring to a lawsuit by the Food Lion supermarket chain against ABC News after a 1992 Primetime Live report exposing Food Lion for selling rotten meat.

Food Lion never claimed that the meat was planted. The lawsuit said that ABC broke the law because its undercover reporters falsely claimed supermarket-experience on their applications in order to do the investigation.

Does anyone out there personally know an employee of ABC to contact about this?

If not, there is a form to contact Primetime Live at:

1. I think they were confusing it with the NBC's Dateline
putting explosives in GMC trucks saddlebag fuels tanks to get them to explode on impact... ABC got sued for putting an undercover reporter in the job as a meatperson, and filming their, uhmmm, REALLY unsanitary operations... I remember the show... It was disgusting... "almost" made me go vegan...

3. Jim Pinkerton referred to both the NBC case and the ABC case
In the NBC case, NBC did something wrong.

In the ABC Primetime Live case, ABC did excellent undercover journalism exposing wrongdoing by Food Lion.

I wish ABC would do more undercover investigative reports.

The lawsuit by Food Lion didn't challenge a single fact in the report, and the jury wasn't allowed to watch the report.

The lawsuit was based on the reporters' falsely claiming to have supermarket experience.
