Morman Movie...WTF is this?
While looking over the movie guide, I found "The Book of Morman volumne !". @ 2 of Sacrameto's Century theaters. There seems to be no reviews or advertising info on these movies. Tell me, are religous nuts running Century theaters? Is this some new, sick plot to suck in mush brains @ a place that they least expect it? Is a church subsidizing movies that have no commercial (or real cultural) value? Somebody, tell me I'm mistaken, paleeeeze!

1. I'd call and ask them. Maybe that theatre owner's LDS and did it
on his/her own.

2. I thought Battlestar Galactica already told that story?
The original series with Lorne Greene, not the remake on the SciFi channel.

Seriously:

Glen Larson (creator and producer of Galactica) is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and many parallels between his church's and the show's mythologies can be found.

The main characters in Galactica are the last remnants of the Twelve Colonies, which were founded by twelve tribes of humans who left their home planet of Kobol, which had become inhabitable because of either natural or man-made contamination. There was a "lost thirteenth tribe" who went a different direction than the rest and, as the story goes, ended up colonizing Earth. Commander Adama once delivered the following speech about their origins: "Our recorded history tells us we descended from a mother colony, a race that went out into space to establish colonies. Those of us assembled here now represent the only known surviving Colonists, save one. A sister world, far out in the universe, remembered to us only through ancient writings..." He goes on to assert that the "lost thirteenth tribe" colonized Earth. Something called "The Book of The Word" described the journey of the tribes of man away from Kobol.

I hear they took all that backstory out of the new SciFi channel series, however.

3. most theaters
will allow you to rent them out and show any movie you please.

Its sort of like when you see a "sponsered" program on tv (informercial). Its not very uncommon. I'm sure the church rented the theater, and than sold their own tickets or gave them away.

5. the mormons have been making movies for years.
maybe they're "four walling" the theaters in your area (which is the term for where anyone can rent the theater).

Most of the movies probably aren't seen outside of Utah
