Nigerian email conmen fall into their targets' net *this is funny!*
It has been described as the internet's first blood sport and is fast becoming one of the web's favourite pastimes. Fed up with having their inboxes clogged with emails from Nigerian fraudsters promising untold riches, the victims are finally hitting back.
Scam-baiting - replying to the emails and stringing the con artists along with a view to humiliating them as much as possible - is becoming increasingly popular with more than 150 websites chronicling the often hilarious results.

Known as 419 fraud, after the section of the Nigerian penal code that it contravenes, the scam generates millions of pounds each year. According to the National Criminal Intelligence Service, the average loss in the UK stands at around £35,000.

1. LOL Here is my standard Nigerian scam reply stationery
Thank you for considering us for this Nigerian Scam Opportunity.

Unfortunately, we are only considering original Nigerian Scams at this time.

Please revise your Nigerian Scam to include original material and resubmit with Credit Card Number, Expiration Date, Control Number, and name as it appears on the Credit Card. We will consider VISA, Mastercard or Discover cards with cash advances available of over $35,000.

9. I'm just feeling so left out
I haven't had one for 2 years. And my response was so boring. My guy was trying to spirit several million of gov't money out of the country and needed my bank account to park it in. I wrote back and suggested that as there was so much poverty in his country that perhaps the money would be better spent in medical care and education for his people.

Needless to say, I never heard back from him.

13. You can have some of mine. I counted 26 of them
in the big bunch of e-mail I went through for Black Box Voting today. My favorite one said something like "An urgent request from the Senator." Of course I opened it...

"I am the honorable Senator Mbume who has sadly been deposed of my position ...

2. That was so funny
I went to highschool with someone who fell for this same thing but offline. They got him to go to the atm and take out a lot of money.

8. Don't be silly, txdude10
You are not to blame for someone else's scams. Any more than for example other DU'ers are to blame for the chimp and his lying, cheating, bombing, stealing and killing.

Anyhow, even the people who fall for it are trying to pull off something shady and get something for nothing so they aren't exactly innocent victims either.

12. Oh... don't you dare be ashamed...
The nationality won't be characterized by the actions of the individuals. Not by anyone here, anyway.

Besides, it's a popular scam that is no longer exclusive to Nigerian scam artists. I read on a myth debunking site that British officials have found mixed groups running the conm it's gotten that big. I still get the emails at least once a month.

11. Here is an awesome site
http://www.scamorama.com/smith-okoro.html

As a token of our friendship, I would like to send you a small gift, I know this is tradition in many african countries when starting out on a new journey of commerce. Do you have any suggestions for anything I could supply from the UK which may be difficult to locate in Africa. Maybe, some Ambre Solaire or Piz Buin. These are very rare in Africa I believe.

If so, let me know. I would of course look for a souvenir of Africa. Maybe a Bearded Clam, or possibly a Chocolate Starfish. I know both are easily obtainable in most African countries but entering these in UK is not so easy.

I will speak with you soon, please let me know the DHL details where I can send your gift, and let me know if I should look into transporting myself to Africa.

warmest and kindest regards,

your brotha,

BILL SMITH.
