To win we need to stand up to Russert et. al.
Edited on Sun Nov-16-03 11:52 AM by John_H
Mods: sorry.I was editing my dupe post when it was locked.

Going in to the high gear portion of this election, we can't repeat the mistake of letting the sunday pundits start memes like they did in 2000. And the best way to do this is to stand up to them right on the air.

An example of the above point:

Notice the difference between recent Russert, fuax et al shows when certain dems are on? Compare the usual, biden, Dodd, Bayh, etc. appearance to what our candidates have been doing. Those guys, since they just looooooove to hear themselves yammer on TV, tend to let Timmy et. al walk all over them.

I'm not ready to switch over to Clark, but on today's MTP he was the first Dem I've seen in a long while who not only stood up to Timmy's BS out-of-context, multiple-source-combining, you're-a-liar-unless-youre-a-bush-cabinet-official spin, but also called him on his bias right on the air. Read the transcript if you didn't get a chance to see MTP: Clark pointed out that Timster took an article grossly out of context, and that Tim not "critics" was suggesting Clark was getting campaign milage out of testifying at the Hague.

It was refreshing to watch MTP without screaming at the TV, "WHY DON'T YOU CALL HIM ON THIS CRAP,YOU WUSS?"

Think someone who's not afraid to mix it up with the big name hoes right on their shows isn't important? Think again.

1. I noticed Clark made Russert stumble
when he took quotes out of context. Clark did stand up to him.

Still Clark needs to speak about the economy and jobs if he ever wants to win. He has to get off the topic of Iraq and not let Russert and the rest define him this way.

2. My sentiments exactly
My wife and I watched MTP this morning, and that's all I could say - when is he going to talk about the economy, tax policy, the environment, the role of federal government in our lives? Iraq was almost exclusively the topic.

4. (Cough, Cough) Iraq is the news right now, The fact that it dominated
the show is a sign that Clark has a strength that he could bring to the table, on what is likely to become a very important issue and may override the economy.

5. Clark did well
and I tbink we should take it to the next level. From now on our candidates should come on his show with cards made up of the context of all the quotes we think he is going to take out of context. When he pulls a quote we should have a card with the context clearly written on it. Do that to him just one time and he will learn his lesson.

6. I thought:
when Clark said "Go ahead, read the rest of the article...", and Russert couldn't, that demonstrated that Clark was well-prepared for Timmy's "gotcha" interview techniques, such as out-of-context quoting.

I thought he did alright.

Clark is some kind of debate fanatic... So, I'm not surprised he was so good at deflecting Tim's BS... He did a realy good job... -CV

11. My favrorite part
was when Russert asked him if the testifying against Milosovic could be seen as a campaign stunt, and Clark responded by asking if Russert was implying it was. Perfect response to a misleading question.

My second favorite was his emphasis on jobs and the folks getting worse jobs than before. I hope his next interview that he starts trying to emphasize the econonmy more.

13. I taped it and, after my second watching,
I'd say Clark caught Russert red-handed and called him on it. Congratulations, General! Its about time someone took Russert down a notch.

14. Clark reading minds of many, including me!!!!
so glad to hear that somebody did what I've been wanting them to do......shove their wingnut boiler room blast fax talking points back down their throat.

why in the world haven't the dems learned from poppy's obscene twisting of the facts way back in eighty frickin EIGHT, when he stopped Rather in his tracks? It's SO easy! all they have to do is give ONE example of how Russert HELPED Cheney, or anyone else (corrected him when he said something about reconstituted weapons/nukes......dialed it down to "programs," thereby making Cheney less of a liar), then another of how he doggedly, relentlessly, ruthlessly (where's Ruth?) attacks dems, backed up by video clips, as well as written quotes, etc.

BTW, the show is rerun on either CNBC or MSNBC tonight at 9 or 10 CST.

also, did anybody see him lavage that hideous creep Bernard Goldberg on his show last night? funny how he gives wingnuts a whole show by themselves, and people like Conason/Franken are always accompanied by the likes of Tuckhead?
