91% of minorites voted AGAINST Bobby Jindal
Heard that on the radio. Glad to see skin color DID NOT factor into their decision.

(But I bet it did for white racist repukes.)

3. shows the problem with gop is their agenda
the republican asses think they can just put someone of color out there to get minority votes. hahahha. do you all remember the 2000 republican convention ? what a joke that was. they thought this time they really were going to get the minority vote by putting some black and latino faces on stage. their entire agenda is anti civil rights, anti women, anti justice. fuck them.

5. saw a column today that said it was the bubba vote
Fred Faux insisted it was white racist types who voted against a black because he was black and made them lose.

8. He received the same % of votes Terrel did last year
Race was surprisingly a non-factor.

7. He was not a token
He was nominated because he was the most qualified candidate.

9. I agree.
The gop isn't thriving (candidate-wise, IYW) in Louisiana. Jindal was the hot shot.

11. He did as well as Terrell
Louisana simply is a moderate-to-conservative Democratic state right now.

15. so what's your point?
I thought I was trying to make it. Terrell sucked. Jindal's got potential. We still won this one. We're a fickle bunch, but I'd say were a Democratic state in the south right now. It's a moderate political climate... I wouldn't say it's right of center.

18. We had a misunderstanding
"The gop isn't thriving (candidate-wise, IYW) in Louisiana. Jindal was the hot shot."

I interpreted that as you saying that Jindal was a weak candidate who emerged because of a dearth of strong candidates.

Congratulations on the win! :toast:

Do you think a Democratic presidential candidate who is pro-choice and for tax increases can carry Louisana next year? I know Clinton did, but can one of the nine candidates in the current field do it?

22. Jumper...
Yes. Clark, Dean, Edwards, or even Kerry can take Louisiana. I'm confident. On balance, this is a blue state, left of center.

25. Well, I'm only basing this on the trends.
But then again Louisiana Democrats are a different breed (for the most). There are a bunch of swing voters here, and turnout seems to be the factor. We had 50.7% on saturday.

I looked it up a couple of days ago, but roughly,

65% turnout in 1995 - Mike Foster(R) over Cleo Fields(D)

but, wow...

77% turnout in 1991 - Edwin Edwards(D) over David Duke(R)
(both in prison, BTW)

Don't count on it, but the trends seem to indicate a dissatisfaction with the shrubbery.

Louisiana is an anomaly. You can't stop us. Next, we're gonna run with scissors.

4. shows you who the smartest voters in America are.
When you're on the sharp end, where the slightest change in policy can be the difference between health/wealth/happiness, and sickness/poverty/misery, you tend to take your vote seriously.

None of this, "I like him because he gets up and feeds his hounds first thing in the morning," when he does no such thing.

6. Bobby Jindal made a couple of big mistakes
l. "People have said I talk too fast. I talk fast because I have a lot to say."

2. "Liberals have failed for many years to fix the school system. Now, it's our turn."

The reason these were both big mistakes were that he is difficult to understand and really does speak too fast. He tried to cram too much information in too little time. Made him appear to be a flim flam artist.

Secondly, there are many people who have worked hard to improve Louisiana's schools. They didn't take kindly to the criticism and the majority certainly do not want vouchers.

At least, this is this Louisianaian's take on the election.

He made Kathleen seem even more experienced and compassionate; and, more importantly, very easy to understand.

14. Here's a fact.
KB Blanco didn't throw her endorsement behind Mary Landrieu in the last senate race. (harumph)

Mary Landrieu was standing next to Kathleen Blanco waving signs and drumming up votes on the streets of New Orleans Saturday.

Class? You bet.

16. and smart
She is well positioned for the VP nod. She is one of the best choices for Dean, Kerry, or Gephard. She would be pretty good for Clark. That is four of the five who have any shot of winning. Only Edwards is a poor fit for her of candidates who have a legit shot at winning.

On TV:
-Blanco came off as a ditz.
-Jindal just seemed creepy.

Wouldn't you agree?

21. I am glad but
Is this a referendum on repugs only or just another sign of race problems in america. And if the second how is it ever gonna get fixed?

I am very concerned about race issues for personal reasons and would be interested to hear some comments...

23. It appears that race was a non-factor
This showed that people will vote based on a candidate's policies and not their skin color if a candidate with a different skin color than most of the electorate is nominated--at least in non-presidential races.

26. Not sure this is a good sign or not
It seems possible that the Dems won this race, because the Republicans did worse with white voters than they expected. In other words, racists may have voted for the White Democrat.
