Judging by their web site, England's Metropolitan Police seem a lot more humane than the cops here in the U.S. For one thing, they approach protest demonstrations impartially, not as adversaries. American cops nearly always align themselves with whoever is in power, especially Republicans. Demonstrations are routinely followed by reports of police brutality. The Metropolitan Police don't seem so obsessed with "defeating" the demonstrators. See
http://www.met.police.uk/events/index.htm for more of the following matter-of-fact account:
On Wednesday the 19th November until Friday 21st November the President of the United States of America will be in London as part of the State Visit.
During this time there will be a number of official visits to locations in London, details of which are still to be confirmed. The President will be traveling to and from these locations in a convoy of motor vehicles. As a consequence there will be a number of road closures to facilitate these movements and at the locations.
These road closures will be kept to a minimum and only implemented for the time that they are actually needed.
During the same time a number of groups have indicated their intention to hold demonstrations. It may be necessary to implement road closures to facilitate these protests.
Due to the changing nature of the various events taking place it is not possible to post full details of all the closures.
