1. I have been on the boards there
since yesterday. Those members (me included) are hot. We seniors are not as senile as they would like to have us. Many members are quitting and writing and calling.
But, Duers, you do not have to be member to complain. Call, e-mail, write and tell them you will NEVER become a member because of this travesty they have pulled on their members. Tell them you will join the Alliance for Retired Americans instead. as they have come out as opposed to the drug bill.
Just think what impact this would have if the AARP had to rescind their endorsement!!!! That would certainly kill this bill.

Get busy and please keep this kicked all day.

2. Why not investigate,
and see if it's possible to recall the president and/or the board of directors?

3. These members are upset, it is like a revolution is going over there...
I think this may be why AARP is trying to put out those ads on TV right away. They knew their members were going to explode in anger and they want to get the propoganda ads out there now.

I hope the members do revolt and send AARP down the tubes. There are other groups out there for seniors who do not bow down to the repukes, at least I hope there are.

4. Seniors are in NO WAY senile.
They are our greatest asset! They are reasoned, they know what's going on and thank God we have them on our side!

12. We're not all rich...............
and we've already paid into this "entitlement program" our entire lives. The government has mismanaged and outrightly stolen this money from us. If you're paying for it, it's the governments fault, not the seniors'. So why don't you just "Shut the f**k up"? There's nothing worse than some self-righteous snot nosed punk demeaning seniors for something that is not their fault.

Go ahead and pave your own street and maintain the damned thing yourself. All I care about is the street in front of my house.

24. Wonder if your tune will change...
...as you approach retirement? Of course, the way things are going, it's doubtful you will be able to retire. We'll all be handing out smiley face stickers as greeters at Walmart when we're in our 80s (unless we die earlier because we couldn't afford prescription drugs).

19. You're blind as a bat....................
24 and you think you've got all the answers. "Go back to work". WHERE? This is Bush's economy (although it sounds like you enjoy it) the fact remains that there are no jobs. Someday you'll grow old and I hope you get the same level of compassion that you show seniors when you do.

26. The heart of "compassion"
``Are there no prisons?'' asked Scrooge.

``Plenty of prisons,'' said the gentleman, laying down the pen again.

``And the Union workhouses?'' demanded Scrooge. ``Are they still in operation?''

``They are. Still,'' returned the gentleman, `` I wish I could say they were not.''

``The Treadmill and the Poor Law are in full vigour, then?'' said Scrooge.

``Both very busy, sir.''

``Oh! I was afraid, from what you said at first, that something had occurred to stop them in their useful course,'' said Scrooge. ``I'm very glad to hear it.''

``Under the impression that they scarcely furnish Christian cheer of mind or body to the multitude,'' returned the gentleman, ``a few of us are endeavouring to raise a fund to buy the Poor some meat and drink, and means of warmth. We choose this time, because it is a time, of all others, when Want is keenly felt, and Abundance rejoices. What shall I put you down for?''

``Nothing!'' Scrooge replied.

``You wish to be anonymous?''

``I wish to be left alone,'' said Scrooge. ``Since you ask me what I wish, gentlemen, that is my answer. I don't make merry myself at Christmas and I can't afford to make idle people merry. I help to support the establishments I have mentioned: they cost enough: and those who are badly off must go there.''

``Many can't go there; and many would rather die.''

``If they would rather die,'' said Scrooge, ``they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.

25. Old timers needs
Why should we pay for their needs? What do we owe them?

Well, their taxes over the years have built the military, your schools, built the roads you drive, funded computer research that resulted in your computer....in short everything you have was built by the old folks.

Time for you to payback what they have passed down to you. The least you can do is to help make sure they can enjoy the few years they have left. This new medicare bill, however, will make you pay even more in the long run. You should not support it. It is geared mainly toward the health of big business, not the humans.

9. I've read several posts there. They are NOT happy campers.
So, in the grand spirit of "piling on," I left my OWN .02 worth -- something about it'll be a cold day in Crawford before they'll ever get MY application card back. Then I sent them an e-mail. Then I sent e-mails to my Congresscritters.

And now, I'm busily looking through my mail to see if I've gotten a solicitation from them recently. Especially one that might have a postage-paid return-reply envelope in it... :grr:

I don't believe in coincidence.

I don't won't to say that all is rigged.

I don't think law of physics will permit it.

But I think the US today is moving to the limit.

That's how they operate, folks. Infiltrate and get in positions of power within the group. They've been doing it for decades.

27. I called AARP yesterday AND Sen. Kennedy...
Edited on Tue Nov-18-03 10:54 AM by Gloria
I had let my membership lapse after 1 year because I saw they weren't really examining the presc. drug thing to my liking. Yesteray, the woman on the phone started reading me their press release...I told her I would never renew my membership and that AARP wasn't to be trusted.I said they had a conflict of interest, they would benefit from this little arrangement.

Then I called Kennedy's office and it seemed phones were ringing off the hook there too. I told the nice young man that I was calling to support Kennedy's fight against this and brought up the question of how AARP would benefit since they are involved in all those insurance, prescription etc. "benefits" programs to members. He said he would bring it to the Senator's attention.

I think everyone, retired, member ofAARP or not, should get on the phone to AARP, Kennedy and all Dem reps .....

I think I'll call back and suggest they expose the political ties of AARP to the GOP. If they are more of a lobbying group for the GOP rather than a true member driven organization, then that should be exposede!!

I hope that Sen. Kennedy has actually looked at the AARP message boards. Seniors are very worried about this bill and rightfully so.

I would not want to be the person taking the calls on this.
She gave me the same spiel that the ads have been saying.

They are just another insurance company.

34. I Just Cancelled !!!
i just called AARP ... they said they are getting drowned with membership cancellation requests ... and their community bulletin boards look a lot like DU !!! almost every post is complaining about how AARP sold out to bush and the republicans ...

if you cancel by phone (lots of menus to work thru), they will absolutely agree to a pro-rated refund but only if you request one !!!

someone suggested joining the Gray Panthers as an alternative ... i'm giving that some thought ...

here's their website for those who are interested (btw, it's not just for us old timers !!!): http://www.graypanthers.org
