What do you think?
Do ya'll think that the European "distaste" for smirk will translate into success for democrats?
The reason that I ask this is because I know that many well-to-do americans have ties in europe (family, investment) and they might be swayed by what's good for the rest of the world instead of just wanting massive tax cuts.

1. I think the Republicans are concerned enough
to have a representitive from "Republicans abroad" on the BBC report this morning doing damage control.

3. I don't think so
There is just enough distrust and loathing of 'them damn furriners'
in Middle America that playing it in the middle (not outright stirring
up war against France say, but belittling them constantly) plays well
in Peoria.

I lived for 4 years in Europe and I've noticed even a lot of educated
people say "Europe is ok; I went to London once, but who cares about
them? They're a bunch of wimpy socialists and we're just better (since
we 'bailed them outta dubya dubya tew')". I think that if there was a
trade war or worse, a majority of Americans would 'circle the wagons'
and have an active dislike for Europe (even if Europe was RIGHT in
the trade war..."who says? some wimpy commie European Court?"
would be the response).

There just isn't enough appreciation of European cultural and historical
contributions to America here anymore. Many have nebulous 'ties to the
old country' but they're just not very deep. We haven't had much
immigration from there in decades, so the generations who lived
there and arrived here are mostly dead or dying off. Not enough
Americans study history or speak foreign languages or even have
passports. And the few that do all of these are far outbalanced by
the kind of people who pour (already paid for) French wine down
the sewer and change Hamburgers to 'freedom beef patties'.

4. People learn by example
The media has lulled the US populace into a deep slumber. It used to be we knew how to protest and make our voices heard. Perhaps their actions in England will rouse the mass here in the states.
