Freepers volunteering for Iraq military service in record numbers
Not.

Why is it that these guys who support the war in Iraq and the next one in Iran won't join up? Heck, we only need 100,000 of them for Iraq right now. Out of a nation of 270,000,000, 30 percent of whom support the war whole heartedly, you would think that one percent of these guys would sign up. They talk a pretty good game of patriotism and the other side are traitors, and freedom for Iraqis and so forth. But we are low on troops and need more.

Why don't they volunteer? Why doesn't Bush call for volunteers?

1. I knew this looked like a joke
The last thing a FReeper would do is leave his or her computer and actually join up.

4. Because they know they have nothing to risk when they say what they do
You can sit at a computer screen and be what ever you want and say what ever you want just as I am doing now and there is very little chance that anything negative will happen to you.

Freepers can call the on the whole country to go to war knowing they will never have to put anything on the line. You can be a real big man when you don't have to back anything up. Its just words spewing from their keyboards. Freepers are really gutless, self-loathing individuals.

5. not a rational argument
i tend to shy away from arguments that suggest that one must serve in order to comment on military action. That is an argument that goes both ways, meaning its the equivalent of calling those people who have served but are anti-war "traitors".

16. I'm not asking all of them to serve
just 100,000 to 200,000 or so. I figure there are 50,000,000 plus right wingers in this country. If they are calling up 56 year old reservists (and they are), this means that less than half a percent of conservative war mongers are needed. I don't expect every one of them to sign up. But how about 1 percent?

When we protest their convention next year, why don't we go and pose as recruitment supporters?

20. Not rational for war "supporters" to physically join the effort???
If it is not rational for those who WANT the war to stand up and JOIN the effort, then what is rational???

Able bodied men & women who love war the most should be right there loving it in person-makes perfect logical sense...

With your attitude we never would have won WWII!!!
I'm glad that the war supporters in WWII were not hypocrites like today's average Republican- they willingly signed up or submitted to the draft- they did not just run their mouths- they fought for freedom by putting their lives on the line...NOT so with today's Republican, who prefers that "those other people" do all the fighting "for them"...

I disagree 100%- who better to fight the wars than those able-bodied, "brave" & intellignet conservatives who are the most passionate about it???

All the intelligent, patriotic,"brave", able-bodied 18-35 year old Republican war "supporters" should be standing in line to fight- just like the "greatest generatton" did- right???

6. Not only do they not volunteer, but you guys should have seen
the uproar at Freeperville when the draft thing was going around about a week ago. They were going crazy and their big argument was "the draft is a bad idea because we need professional soldiers who want to be there fighting."

They are so disgusting.

Don't want to hijack your thread, but my cousin's son who has been in the army for about 10 years just got back from Kuwait and in January he is scheduled to go to Iraq. He hates Bush, thinks he lied about the "war" and will be voting Dem next election. (he is from a hard-core Repug family).

7. Well, didn't you know?
They can't sign up. An old masturbation injury prevents them from entering the service.

ROFL :)

8. Damn.
I thought this was going to be a serious statement.

Why is it that these guys who support the war in Iraq and the next one in Iran won't join up?

Guess they think it's more important to stick around and torment progressives. Are we really a bigger threat than Saddam and his elusive WMDs?

9. chickenhawks
do not need to be in positions of power. They view war as something glamorous or a macho thing. Something someone else can die for while they live out the dream of power.

10. Why the recruiting trouble
These chickenhawks of all ages are going on about what a fine thing it is for the US of A to go democratizing Middle East countries that happen to have oil, and they are calling up reserves, some of whom are older than Bush, but they are having a recruitment problem.

What gives with that? Why can't people who love freedom for Iraqis (freepers and neo-conservatives in general) see that drafting people is taking away their freedom? Can't they see that it is noble to sign up to fight for someone else's freedom? As a percentage of the population, or even the right wing, we are only asking for a few of their children to go fight and hopefully not die or get seriously wounded. Why is there no talk of a recruitment drive?

In World War II, even a racist scum like Strom Thurmond left Congress to serve at what was then an old age. Others did too. Why isn't Rush talking about the need for volunteers on his show every other day?

17. Excellent Idea!
Yes, why doesn't Bush call for volunteers? Especially in light of what he said yesterday:

The US would wage war again, and alone if necessary, to ensure the long-term safety of the world, President George W. Bush said in an interview published today.

http://www.telegraphindia.com/1031118/asp/foreign/story_2583940.asp

All of those people desiring the 'safety of the world' would absolutely FLOOD recruiter's offices for this 'just and noble cause' right????/sarcasm off
