Only four Senators voted against the Syria Accountability Act
and only one of those was a Democrat! (Lieberman and Kerry did not vote.)

http://capwiz.com/congressorg/issues/votes/?votenum=445&chamber=S&congress=1081

By 89 yeas to 4 nays (Vote No. 445), Senate passed H.R. 1828, to halt Syrian support for terrorism, end its occupation of Lebanon, stop its development of weapons of mass destruction, cease its illegal importation of Iraqi oil and illegal shipments of weapons and other military items to Iraq, and by so doing hold Syria accountable for the serious international security problems it has caused in the Middle East.

Nays:

Robert Byrd (D-WV)
Lincoln Chafee (R-RI)
James Jeffords (I-VT)
Mike Enzi (R-WY)

13. 'Pandering to Israelis' -- what are you talking about?
If you truly think we should support Syria -- with its state-sponsored terrorism and totalitarian government -- you don't belong in the Democratic Party.

18. there's my favorite GOP-designed graphic!
the tipoff is that it's borderline sexist and homophobic, as well as not very funny.

Funny how often it appears here at DU.

Unless Bartcop is a Bushevik agent....
That is where it appears most prominently among the website I travel.

Unfortunately, it is also a valid characterization for the "Please don't hurt me" strategy the Dems have been using since before the Attempted Coup of 1998 and sure did work well for us during the Bloodless Coup of 2000 and the 2002 "elections".

Nobody wants the Dems to stand up and fight more than me. Hell, I applaud General Clark for doing what he did to Assman.

It's about damned time!

If the pink tutu fits, it ill behooves us to deny it.

The first step to fixing a problem is acknowledging there is one.

6. Wow. Dean or Clarke could get huge mileage in exposing this cowardice
It is more than evident that we need an overhaul in our Congress. I also believe more than anything we need term limits.

Too much time on the Congressional payroll seems to promote the degeneration of spines through out the House and the Senate.

Not to mention the influence of special interests and lobbyists, however well intentioned are some, needs to be halted. They are the division between us and our leaders. Dean has been on the money with this as with so many other issues.

I say this with an exception to Senator Byrd, but if you look at the ratio of Congressional whoring versus non-whoring, the need for term limits still looks very strong.

28. And what's worse...
Senators get a nice fat pension after 1 term. I think Reps get a nice one after 2 or 3 terms. Criminal! 98% of Senators are millionaires. And probably 70% of the House are.

There's a complete disconnect with the reality of average Americans.

19. pink tutus
again equating cowardice with females or gay men, and also repeating a joke that wasn't very funny to begin with, for the eighty billionth time at last count.

24. Ok. How bout
Sycophantic, treasonous, warmongering, PNACing, brutes, the likes of which haven't been seen since Ghengis Khan?

I kinda like that.

Maybe we could shorten it a bit, but then it would lose its punch.

Pussies is much too polite and kind a term, IMHO

25. Good, but...
...I really wanted a word that was also a thing. I still like my idea of throwing the pink tutus at some party members at the convention, but I guess that's out the question now since some people find it offensive. And I guess we can't throw pussies at them either

31. it's not about hurt feelings
it's about using an ignorant way of making a point. The only thing that is hurt is everyone's intellgence.

The anger is coming across loud and clear, but I have a feeling people don't know what they're angry about. Some seem to think that this is going to lead to us going to war in Syria, for example, despite the lack of any such language, not even any mention of any kind of sacntion.

32. It's only symbolic...
...for now. It's laying the groundwork; providing a hole for escape just in case this little Afghanistan/Iraq adventure doesn't work out. So you move on to the next third-world, non-Christian, damn Arab country. AND, it again sends a horrible message worldwide that we are hell-bent on attacking our foes (which seem to be adding up by the minute these days) and only reinforces our horrible image as an arrogant world bully. Shrub gave us that image -- and our party is helping him to promote it. Don't know what I'm angry about? Please.

11. Some of those names are very respectable
Nevertheless, I'm tired of our party and its leaders following in the footsteps of this lightweight with pom-poms in hand. Voting to place sanctions on a country is a decision that should not be made lightly (and not under duress from certain lobbying groups). As someone who had family living under the misery of sanctions in Iraq for over a decade, I can tell you first-hand that they are devastating. I also have family in Syria and would hate to see them suffer needlessly. Sanctions only help to destroy the lives of innocent people; my party is not suppose to do this. They are the party of social justice and empathy. Of goodwill and peace. This is maddening.

one of the countries on the BORDER of an "axis of evil".....and the next little resolution (harmless of course) will be to authorize Smirky go to the U.N. (following the rules doncha know....gonna get permission, see?) and have them condemned for not doing what we tell them to do......

then....well, I don't think last year is tooooooo far in the past for most of us to remember........or maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm wrong about that.

Why not not vote on it at all? (Why dignify something unreal with a real vote in favor of it?)
