Bush Approval at 50%, Tied for Lowest of Presidency
PRINCETON, NJ -- The latest CNN/USA Today/Gallup survey finds the American public expressing positive views about President George W. Bush personally, but having ambivalent views about his performance in office. The president's approval rating is down to 50%, tying the lowest level of his presidency, at the same time that 68% of Americans approve of Bush "as a person." Several ratings of his personal characteristics have slipped over the past several months, though the biggest declines are found on policy rather than personal issues.

The poll, conducted Nov. 14-16, finds Bush's approval rating identical to that measured two months ago, Sept. 19-21, 50% approve to 47% disapprove, which was the worst rating recorded during his presidency. Prior to that Bush's term-low rating was a 51% score in a poll conducted immediately before the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

1. What's funny is that
the corporate media hasn't stopped talking about the "huge growth" in the third quarter. Not even the Right Wing Propaganda Machine can keep the blindfolds over the people forever. :bounce:

3. This is bad news.
I am no fan of the Gallup polling company, but if they have him at 50% than you know Bush is in trouble. Gee I remember, I think it was the last Galup poll had him at 56%. All the 24hrs repeated those numbers every hour on the hour. I have not heard one tv news channel repeat these numbers, other than the scroll at the bottom of MSNBC. HMMMMM

9. "68% of Americans approve of Bush 'as a person.'"
Well gee! Just 'cause he's a liar, a cheat, and a thief, who has killed tens of thousands of people and devastated the lives of countless millions, that doesn't mean he's a bad person. :grr:

17. One sec dont get too cocky yet.
Historically speaking, Bush's approval rating is not bad for this time in a president's first term. It is higher than reagans and higher than Clintons at this point in their first term. WHile this can be seen as a good sign, Nov 11 2004 is a long way away and a lot can happen.

19. But it's worse than his Daddy's and the direction it's going isn't
in his favor. The real questions is: what baseline won't he fall below? What percentage of people make up the hardliners who will support him no matter what? Is there still some squish in the approval that we can suck up? Or is this country just simply divided--50-50--and it's all about turn-out.

Actually, no. Bush's approval rating is slightly lower than Regan's and Clinton's were at this point in their presidencies and more in line with pappa Bush's.

23. He does come across as a straight talker to most.
He is not even liked by many in his party but when he talks. I know thats a biggie here on DU. He does come across as someone who isnt trying to be political, just doing what he thinks is right. I have heard this from many RWers and it might have some merit. They dont feel like they are being talked to by someone who feels superior. It is like they think he is talking to them as a person, not a voter. I think that that is very effective and he talks like you or I, not like a politician. I think his being unable to make a statement like its a written answer plays well to most americans. They see themselves in those hesitations and thoughts. Just my thoughts from someone who works with RWers daily.

Check out that graph--looks just like a christmas tree. And what a merry christmas it will be next year when Pickles is packing up the vinyl slip covers to take back to the ranch.

When gallup has him at fifty, you can bet he's at 45.

25. Is it just me, or does that graph look like a jagged edge dagger?
just wishful thinking, i guess. Note.....i am not...repeat NOT suggesting that bush be stabbed by a jagged edged dagger. He could fall on it. and it wouldnt even have to be real sharp. Just kidding.....beating him on election day and sending him back to that staged set-up of a ranch for the rest of his life would be good enough for me.

30. very interesting graph...
- Both Bush I and Bush II have wildly fluctuating approval ratings ( associated with wars, terrorist attacks).

- Reagan's and Clinton's curves look very similar

- Carter's ratings were the worst.
