today, some Oxyrush caller who's UAW member claimed Chimpy came in second in his union's poll of support for the presidency

unions and the environmentalists split on this issue. So what happened? The unions went and supported the Bush on opening ANWR.

The Unions want the place opened up.

However, if the Energy Bill passes, there will be an 18 billion dollar subsidy to build a natural gas pipeline from Alaska to Chicago. It is said that it will create a couple hundred thousand jobs.

That is one third the entire population of alaska. I don't think there will be more than a few thousand jobs created at most. As far as "The Unions" wanting this. I believe it is only the Teamsters and the Local Teamsters in Alaska just threw out their president who changed his party to Republican. I think things are a little different here than in the National Teamsters with Hoffa as Leader.

There are nine Dems in the race, and only one Repuke.

Naturally Bush* is going to finish fairly high, especially when you consider that at least two of the Dems (Kucinich and Gephardt) are longstanding labor allies, while a third (Dean) has recently made inroads among white-collar unions.

Apparently there aren't enough lock-'n'-load, kill-'em'-all'-let-God-sort-'em'-out diehards among the UAW even to give Bush* a plurality when the Dem vote is split nine ways.

There. That's my spin on it.

The Anchorage Daily News has as its headline today:
Murkowski <aka MurTAXski> pushs for local hire.

Sort of dove tails. Beat down the incredibly HOT
devisive issue of hiring local to get this through.
I doubt that it will happen. I doubt that it will
create very many jobs here. They always bring in
Texans, Louisianans, etc. We always get screwed.

7. Opening up the first pipe line had alot to do with union power.

Go back to 70's and look at the tex. rep. union distrist and how the vote went.Most people who came to Alaska and worked pipe line were from that union in Tex.
