No fire today
If you'll remember I had a question for parents yesterday concerning unattended children. My wife and I talked to our neighbor yesterday evening about the goings on next door.
I'm glad I waited to talk with her, turns out there was a girl babysitting, but, this girl left to get a muffler put on her truck and left the children alone. The mother didn't know this, also the kids that were there live down the street and were'nt supposed to be there in the first place.
In addition to setting fires, they busted two windows, she wasn't in the best of moods, let me tell you, and heads rolled yesterday.
She's a hard working single mom, has to be at work at three o'clock in the morning, and she thought her childcare was taken care of. She was polite and apoligised for trouble caused by the kids. I had to get a ladder and get a couple of them off the roof, the busted windows come into play here.
Anyway, it's much quieter over there today, thanks for all who advised me yesterday, being childless I didn't know what to do.

1. Thanks for the update
I was thinking about you (and your neighbor) today. I'm really glad to hear that you and your wife took the time to get involved a lil bit and find out what was really going on. To me THAT's good citizenship and neighborliness in action.

Peace

2. That is great news ...
I mean the ultimate outcome of the situation. Not the fact the the kids were left alone and were up to dangerous things. I'm sure the baby sitter got a good reaming, as she has the ultimate responsibility of the situation. The added kids, and wreckless behaviour simply made the situation known to you, and your actions will help make sure this doesn't happen again.

I would like to repeat something I posted in yesterdays thread.

I believe it is of upmost importance to keep good relations with your neighbors. There is a possibility that you may spend the rest of you life living near/next to them. Gaining the friendship and trust of your neighbors will benifit everyone involved. They may watch out for you (and your property) more closely when you are away, etc. Good lord you may find a good friend. With this in mind I NEVER talk politics with my neighbors.

I commend you on not pulling the trigger (calling the authorities) as a first resort, without at least talking with the parent(s). It is obvious that this situation was an isolated situation (thanks to the neglegence of the babysitter).

Cheers
Drifter

3. Empathy here for the single mom
getting child care that is both affordable and trusted is a full time worry. Now she knows that she has a neighbor that she can trust.
