League of Women Voters Election Reform position page is gone
This is interesting:

Go to http://www.lwv.org/where/promoting/election.html

Click on

* Election Reform: A Comprehensive Guide to Major Recommendations & League Positions

And you get the error

"The page cannot be found
The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable."

Looks like they might be rethinking their opposition to a paper trail. Good stuff!

3. I sent them an e-mail over a week ago.
Asking their position on electronic "no paper trail" voting.
Still haven't gotten an answer.
Thanks for reminding me.

4. This is good news -- either they are rethinking or
deciding they don't want to admit what their position is. Let's assume they are rethinking, and give them lots of "encouragement" to finish the rethinking process!

9. Oh, the LWV ALWAYS stand behind their positions......
they have to be re-thinking.....

They wouldn't try to mask it. I have to have belief in the LWV......if not, all is lost. LOL

6. it would be encouraging
IF they were in dialogue with anyone on the voting machine issue lately.
I received no reply from Merrins, the NY rep. If they are doing unilateral changes it would at best be merely to curb their sponsorship not join the hunt. If they have to reconcile their objections to paper trails why not discuss it with someone other than the usual suspects who took them for a ride?

Or it is just the season for updates like my confusticated $%&*&^$# Thrift Saving Plan site.

Responsible people had better step up their vigilance. These machines are moving in fast.

8. League of Women's Voters have been accused of vote fraud before
The League of Women's Voters was accused of ballot tampering and vote fraud by the author of a book, VoteScam, about an election in Florida in the late 1970s.

I thought it sounded too crazy to be true. Then I find out the League of Women's Voters is against a paper trail. Go figure.

10. Keep the heat on: Here's a letter to help you get started
by Dagmark -- very well done, customize and add your own stuff so it's not a cookie cutter.

LOTS of League of Women Voters contact numbers at the blackboxvoting.org web site ("contacts")

The link, above, has much more fodder also. Keep the momentum up so they can't just be quiet, they must take a stand.

14. Oops -- HFishbine, quite brilliant then.
I read the letter and wondered why I'm so wordy when others are so concisely effective.

It is EVERYONE that is making this happen. In this democracy, it just didn't work to hope that some politician or some organization would solve this for us.

15. Not All League Members Agree with National..
The state league in Washington just recently approved a study on the voting machine issue.

Local members were upset at National's position on this.

Their stance was NOT from the grassroots up.

In my opinion, take a look at the League president and read her resume. Does this sound like a DLC-type to you?

The league I am told does things very slowly. However, given that, there should not have been a position on DRE's at all until it was studied and voted on by the majority.

Now, does there seem to be some similiarities in the reasons given for support of non-paper trail voting systems? Like they came from the same source? That would be interesting....

20. thanks for the link
That's pretty good reading. Searching that document for "paper" brings up just one unrelated sentance.

The problem that I originally reported is still there.
