Food for thought - Paleo-cons=liberals' natural allies
Edited on Thu Jul-24-03 01:36 PM by Loonman
Possibly we could work somewhat with the paleo-cons to counter the Bush-bots, freepers and other boot-lickers who sell out their country to bloodthirsty reprobates(Rummy).

1. In many ways, yes.
Though we may differ on many fundamental subjects (reproductive rights, death penalty, church/state issues, immigration, etc.), paleocons also have a natural fear of privacy invasion and preemptive war/nation building. I guess that's one reason the ACLU hired Bob Barr!

2. Would be a coup
I don't know how long it would last, but the paleos dislike the freeps and neos as much as we do.

4. Buchanan, yeah, not sure about Novak
But I don't think poor confused Bob is sure, either.

The guy gives crappy examples, and it is on NRO(an Ann-thrax free, NRO), but you can glean some good stuff from the article.

I've talked with a few paleo-conservatives, not physically old, but they think Bush and Ashcroft are idiots, and Rummy is a war criminal.

5. Excerpts from the column...
Snip:
You may know the names of these antiwar conservatives. Some are famous: Patrick Buchanan and Robert Novak. Others are not: Llewellyn Rockwell, Samuel Francis, Thomas Fleming, Scott McConnell, Justin Raimondo, Joe Sobran, Charley Reese, Jude Wanniski, Eric Margolis, and Taki Theodoracopulos.

But the antiwar conservatives have gone far, far beyond the advocacy of alternative strategies. They have made common cause with the left-wing and Islamist antiwar movements in this country and in Europe. They deny and excuse terror. They espouse a potentially self-fulfilling defeatism. They publicize wild conspiracy theories. And some of them explicitly yearn for the victory of their nation's enemies. \

Jeez... this whole article is an ATTACK on the paleo's, Novak & Buchanan in particular. Frum doesn't appear to like them too much... maybe there's hope?

6. Yeah, it is a hit piece
But if the paleos can muster this much ire, they gotta be alright.

7. yes
If you go read *some* of the articles at:

http://www.lewrockwell.com/

a paleo-con site you can see that they hold
a value for law and rights that is missing
from the neo-con that run the show these days.

I have thought that progressives and the old
right are closer that either likes to think.

8. makes perfect sense
regardless of their ideological slant, i think honest, informed, principled, freedom-loving individuals would have to agree - Bush* is an unmitigated disaster.

10. Ok, but ...
If my house is burning down, I don't much care about the politics of the firemen.
For the record, I have never slammed a Green or knowingly befriended a wingnut.
Politics DOES make strange bedfellows! Just look around DU...
