6. Gore Vidal last night
Did anyone watch Gore Vidal on Charlie last night? Vidal has a new book out. He's extremely critical of this administration and worried about the future of this country. Get a transcript if you can.

3. good.
Hey I got an email from him the other day. I wrote to him about the craziness today and a week later he returned it and said just to latch onto something good and forget about the madness. He said to contribute my time to worthwhile causes. I was floored he took the time as busy as he is.

25. Chomsky is blowing Charlie's mind about Tom Friedman
quoted Friedman as saying during Poppy's regime that the ideal govt. in Iraq would be an iron-fisted strongman other than Saddam but who ran Iraq in the same way.

Charlie was shocked, said you don't really think Friedman would support Saddam's torture do you. Chomsky said, then why did he write it? :-)

26. "You're talking about personalities; I'm describing a movement."
Chomsky chastising Rose.

Rose seemed to try to dominate this entire hour.

What a shame.

38. Simple Rose
I agree. I'm surprised how naive Rose is/was appearing to be.

He must realize that the US has supported, as a matter of policy, murweous dictators when it served our economic and strategic interests.

Chomsky always does badly on US TV. The questions are lame and his reponses aren't given enough room to expand into evidence.

It does allow him to get in front of people with ideas they probably haven't heard before.

Can't wait to get his new book.

33. Charlie Rose was distraught
he acted tonight like he did when he interviewed Amy Goodman

He simply didn't want to hear the realities that Chomsky was hitting him with like a ton of bricks.

I used to think something of Rose. Maybe he does well when the subject matter isn't particularly difficult. He seemed out of his element tonight. He simply wasn't prepared for the facts that Chomsky had at his hands.

34. Chomsky is low-key. Not Rose. Rose seemed more concerned with his image...
...his image as a lightweight.

Chomsky didn't go on Rose's show to listen to Charlie.

Chomsky was great, but he was slowed considerably by Rose's attempt at interviewing him.

Shame on you, Charlie Rose. Really smart folks know when to step back.

36. the odd thing is
towards the end of the show rose even said something to the effect of, 'i'm going to get mail saying i interrupted too much'. well duh! his audible gasps when chomsky brought up any kind of "controversial" opinion were really annoying as well.
