AARP commercials are insulting!!
Has anyone seen the AARP medicare bill commercials? "it's not perfect but it's better than nothing" and similar bullshit. These commercials had to be shot long before anyone had seen any part of the legislation. I have resigned after joining last month. Screw AARP.

1. they're sure spending a fortune on them...
i suspect their a little worried about the backlash against their endorsement.

I've NEVER seen them run so many ads on any subject. This one must have them nervous.

4. Why weren't the members asked their opinions?
By backing this organization I guess I was backing Bush. No way.

5. I saw it once last night.
There was one line that made me scream at the TV, not a habit of mine. Something about how the important thing was to do something, anything right away. Oh, sure. And why is it important? SO THAT BUSH CAN BRAG ABOUT IT! I became eligible to join AARP last month. I haven't heard from them yet, but when I do, and you know I will, they are in for an earfull.

7. good...
I hope all the DU AARP members give them an earful.

I've always had mixed feelings about AARP: they're a little powerful for my tastes, and they represent a demographic that doesn't need as much help as some others. That being said, I always found them sort of benign. But this Medicare endorsement really pisses me off.

11. Welcome to DU! Good question. I don't know if AARP has even
seen the bill. Knowing the tv business, they sure put this piece together quickly. My question is how did they know at the time? And how did they arrive at their conclusion. Were members contacted? Were members polled? Or does aarp just assume and speak for it's members? These are questions asked when I resigned. If they answer, I'll get back.

12. Here is a good page to explain parts of it.
In short, it is the beginning of the end of the traditional one.

13. If seniors oppose this bill, who the hell is AARP working for?
Screw this organization. In my mind, they are now a political tool of the right wing.

14. Really insulting our intelligence aren't they?
I read they were planned long before to back up the bill. I guess it's our membership fees that paid for them.
