Does it really matter?
Seriously, does it really matter if we elect someone other than Bush to the white house?

Pretty much anyone we elect will have similar laissez-faire economic policy. Pretty much anyone we elect will be a corporate stooge. Our elected officials aren't beholden to the people anymore, we don't matter to them.

American Imperialism has gone on for alot longer than the Bush Administration has been in office. There has not been any real positive change outside of civil rights since the depression and FDR (I tend to give credit for that stuff to Eleanor). The masses are either disenfranchised or outright dependant on the system. There is no justice. The rich and powerful are above the law. Our civil rights are (not so)slowly being eroded (remember this started with Clinton, after Ok City)and we are being pushed towards fascist, totalitarian oligarchy.

There are two routes left to effect positive change, revolution and general strike. A general strike cannot happen, here's why;
1. The freeper underclass. This is the group of people who need to have pride in their countries (read countries as republican party)ideals and actions no matter what. These people don't/won't understand that the ideals and beliefs they so adamantly support are the very ideals and beliefs that keep them powerless. Their reliance on this belief system is the same as drug addiction, alcohol abuse adn religious fundamentalism. It is a crutch that helps them cope/escape from the everyday realities of there subservient existence. These people, as a result of their addiction to the belief system set forth in the "American Dream" and the right wings perversion of that vision will never strike. In fact, they can be counted on to break the status quo challenging actions of their peers.

2. The other group who wouldn't strike but who might join in an uprising is the working destitute. These people cannot afford to NOT work. THey are a few dollars away from abject poverty and homelessness. These would be especially unlikely to strike if there were children/invalid family members dependant on their salaries.

So, ask yourself, what recourse is left to us and does any of the other peripheral stuff (like a rigged election between evil and evil with a smile) really matter?

1. I often wonder myself sometimes.
However I think we have to get rid of Bush one way or another. He and his people are the worst of the worst. Things may or may not change if we kick them out, but that's why we can't rest on our laurels. We progressives have to keep fighting even after that and not become complacent. It's not over with Bush, but if he stays in power a lot more may be over.

2. You Sound Just Like
All those people who said "what harm can he possibly do in four years" when we were arguing about the election results. You know, people who were uncomfortable and just wanted to give up.....

You sound like a reasonably intelligent person, so don't be fooled. Telling Biff and Co. that they get to run the country for four more years when he cannot be re-elected is like going to the rowdy frat house and telling the guys you are yanking their charter, but they have four years until getting shut down and expecting them to behave. You know they are going to trash the place and strip it clean.

3. At least with the commander of chimps and his crew
we know that the corporations are in charge. They don't try to cover it up like all the DLC type fucks that are running right now. There are three candidates I would believe MIGHT try to make some legitimate changes to the way things are and they are automatically written off as "unelectable."

There is something wrong with the country when the CLINTONS of all people are considered to be liberals by the population. What the hell does that make me? What the hell does that make Fucking RICHARD NIXON, who bandied about the idea of negative income tax and MAXIMUM wage?

4. so i imply
that what you are calling for is revolution. and that is the only answer. this is an early call however. a key ingrediant for revolution is misery. until a huge number of people feel the same sense of "nothing to loose", revolution will be delayed. i'm ready now. let's lay the framework. we need new founding fathers. some that come to mind:

howard zinn
noam chomsky
? roi
joe conason

5. Well, I don't want revolution...It's inevitable.
Probably not one after the Marxian model, maybe something more Jeffersonian.
