Texas GOP Senator Ratliff resigns over redistricting flap



AUSTIN (AP) – State Sen. Bill Ratliff, a Republican who served for two years as acting lieutenant governor and re cently denounced the GOP-led congressional redistricting ef fort, said Thursday he is re signing.

Quoting from the Bible, Ratliff said ''to every thing there is a season.'' He said now is his ''time for going out.''

2. I'm gonna miss ol' Obi-wan.
I didn't often agree with him, but at least he was a reasonable Republican, not a neo-con screamer. A true conservative, not an ideologue.

3. Seems the GOP is purging the more reasonable members
My GOP State Senator Wentworth (aka known as the "formerly reasonable, at least on re-districting, Wentworth") has apparently decided to assimilate rather than be purged himself.

He went along wholeheartedly with the re-re-districting sham. :grr:

Ratliff was the only GOPer who appeared disgusted with the thing. I am sorry to see him go.

4. Yeah, you'd think Wentworth would have been disgusted.
After all, the hard-liners (Sibley) torpedoed the redistricting bill he had written in 2001. They made him look ineffective. I'd have been pissed and laying in the tall grass waiting for them, but I suppose he likes his job...:eyes:
