Fox News? A rant.
I was eating my lunch and flipped on the TV at about 5 after 1. There was this cutsey blond gal interviewing a right winger and a democratic congressman (not sure who they were). This so-called "news person" was practically in tears defending "resident idiot" against criticism. I kid you not, her voice was shaking, and actually breaking with emotion.

Why, of why, did I even glance at Fox News? I haven't looked at Fox News or just about any other TV News except Newsworld International for months. Is this really what right-wingers are watching now and accept as news? That was many times worse than anything else I've ever seen on something that calls itself news. I still can't believe it. I am not only dismayed, but outraged. It was the most outrageous outburst from a news person I've ever witnessed. Who is that woman? What happened to professionalism?

I can't believe any progressive or liberal would accept an invitation to an interview on Fox. What are they thinking? Let them interview themselves and pat their own backs. Why, in god's name, would a Democrat subject himself to this?

1. refuse to watch it
I watch the News Hour with Jim Lehrer on PBS. I do occasionally watch CBS and other evening news just for comparison, but then my husband comes home and starts ranting about corporate news and how he dislikes Dan Rather. (So I guess I watch corporate news somewhat surreptiotiously!) You need to know what "the enemy" is up to, but I don't think we need to punish ourselves with it, either. I suppose I am sticking my head in the sand a little, but I do think people should demand at least somewhat "unbiased" news coverage, perhaps call up advertisers and complain ( since that is what TV seems to be about) and not reinforce the lowest common denominator.

2. Can we sue them on the 'fair and balanced' nonsense?
Just call it Karmic Justice.

Read it and weep. Yet another nail in the coffin of the Old American Republic.

And the Busheviks have a friggin pneumatic nailgun in hand.

12. Irony is almost as dead in Imperial Amerika as it was in the Soviet Union
"600%, comrades!" (cutesy Soviet blonde tears up), "That's how much toilet paper productions has gone up in the last years" (squeezes tears out from her eyes), "How can anyone believe the lies, Comrades, told by our enemies of 6 hour lines waiting for toilet paper! How can this be when we in the Glorious Soviet Union have all the toilet paper we need and then some!" (the tears flow further)

As I said, prepare to enter the Soviet Phase of Imperial Amerikan Lies...we've only just begun...

4. What gets me
...is their target audience, stay-at-home moms. They really think intelligent women who are working their butts off raising the next generation of voters are going to fall for this hyperemotional bull puckey! Not only is it NOT journalism, it's heavily insulting to women, and follows the CBN/Tammy Faye Bakker format to a tee. Turn that thing off! It's bad for your head!

As for what that "liberal Congressman" was doing on Weeping Wilma's show, who knows? They don't get much airtime on "responsible" networks, where FAIR has found them outnumbered 3 to 1 by GOPers. Perhaps the poor slob was so desperate to get his message out that he didn't consider what sort of format he was walking into.

6. You must have never seen Soviet TV or TV in Marcos' Phillipines
I share your feelings at living for so much of my life in a Free Country with a Free Press, only to now live in an Empire with a Corporate TV Pravda as an appendage to the Party-Loyal Right-Wing Sub-Media.

Life's a bitch, ain't it? Just be glas we got to live for so long in the Old American Republic, and pity the ones who come after who will never know the joy of true freedom...

(though this twilight that we "little people" now live in for a little while longer is sort of a phony approximation that our great-grandchildren would likely kill to live in even that)

11. it's a twisted parody
One of the things – among the many – that burn me up about Faux is how, in addition to saying they’re fair and balnced, they now trot out this “real journalism” hogwash. Hard to put my finger on what it is that bugs me about it, other than it’s so patently false. It’s like a law firm saying they practice “real law” or a doctor saying he’s a “real doctor.” I guess what really irks me is that it’s almost an insult to the craft, one they’ve essentially hijacked. By whatever measure, they’re not practicing anything remotely close to journalism. Maybe they ought to slightly adjust the “real journalism” mantra to read “reel journalism,” as in reel the suckers with some stinkbait slogans and just tell em what they want to hear.
